Enjoyed it way more than the British Museum. Had to pay to see The Arnolfini Portrait (moved as part of an exhibition) but just as well; I was able to observe it without having to fight for a good spot. Lovely museum. Solid collection. Would definitely return.

The National Gallery is amazing and I highly recommend it! Without little kids. And mine were 13, 10, and 8 when we visited and absolutely no appreciation for fine art just yet.

But I digress.

I loved the Rembrandt’s on display and this collection exceeds the National Gallery in Washington DC on that alone. The sunflowers by Van Gogh is one of my favorites and the Caravaggios on display were impressive.

But my favorite genre of painters will always be the impressionists and my favorite of all, Monet. I just missed the traveling Monet and Architecture Tour by 3 days but the ones there still held my attention.

Very impressive collection and something you should take your time and see in 2-4 hour sessions slowly to soak it all in. And without little ones unless they can appreciate art.

Returned to visit more of the permanent collection. Last visit was to the early works. This visit covered 1700 onwards including the Impressionists. A great selection of Turner, Constable and Stubbs' work. A very impressive Stubbs portrait of the race horse Whistlejacket - almost life size. Some beautiful winter scenes and a good selection of Impressionists. Go early as the Van Gogh paintings are almost impossible to see later on. Also you will avoid the tourists taking photos of every painting.

Only had time for an hour or two...the size and quality of the collection could keep you here for days. The audio guide was worth the price, especially given the free admission. A world class art gallery for certain!

I especially loved the Turner collection. The rooms are well lit and the collection of artworks is extensive
