Excellent collection of paintings, especially for the 19th century. Impressionist paintings and Renaissance collection (including Leonardo) were highlights. Free admission, but ban on photography is a weakness, especially as many other museums allow it (e.g. Louvre, Met in NYC). Perfect location in Trafalgar Square and walking distance to theatres near Leicester Square.

A labyrinth of a museum, it pays to concentrate on one artist or period but the temptation to just wander and stare at room upon room of magnificent paintings is hard to resist. The Street Artists outside the museum, a naked man balancing on top of a ladder and knife juggling when we visited provide a nice foil to the High culture inside.

Spent hours in here looking at some of the most famous paintings you've ever heard about and we took a free tour which was the best.

Even if you are not an "art buff" it's still a great attraction to see. The building is stunning and artwork is quite beautiful. Entry is free, and you are up close to paintings by artists that you will definitely recognise.
