Description: In 1952, a tenant by the name of Alistair leased the Guinea from Young's and transformed the business with a very simple idea. He realized that following the end of the Second World War, Americans were beginning to holiday in Europe in big numbers. Tourists would often, travel through France and Italy before arriving on British soil by which time they were 'gagging' for a decent steak. A decent steak was exactly what Alistair provided. Prime Scotch beef from Aberdeenshire. Basically, there was no menu and no price list. You were simply given a knife and asked to place a mark on the steak to indicate what size you wanted. Suddenly the Guinea Grill was a hot ticket, film stars, politicians, world leaders and the wealthy flocked to the back room of our tiny pub. We're founder members of the Scotch beef club and we've been serving the very best steaks for 60 years. We've trialled beef from other parts of the globe such as the US and Argentina. They all have their merits but for depth of flavour none of them compare to prime Scotch and the finest of English beef. This is the basis of our continued popularity together with the fact that our restaurant is within a unique London pub. Many of our staff have been with us for years, and we place a high value on customer recognition and warm hospitality.

We had arrived in london from Dublin and were staying at The Mayfair Hotel for a family get together. We decided on the Saturday Night to visit this restaurant that was highly recommended to us. What an experience it was. This restauarant serves the most amazing steaks we have EVER tasted We were greeted by the lovely Dee,who endeavoured to indulge us on the cuts of meat that were available on the menu and explained in lovely detail about where their meat is sourced and told us all about the Angus Aberdeen Beef which was freshly displayed in the refrigerated unit before we entered the restaurant.Nice touch I thought. Our waiter was introduced to us and what a lovely man he is.His name is Sujan. We went straight in for the main course and my what a pleasure it was. All of our meals were cooked to perfection. The meat just melted in your mouth. The presentation, taste and textures of all of the food from the main to the vegetables to the sauces was outstanding. The deserts were highjacked at an alarming rate also.I shook the chefs hand to thank him and he told me his name was "Magic"
I agreed,it certainly was!!!
Book to avoid dissapointment as this place is the oyster in the pearl.Thankyou to you all,you will be seeing us again
Oh,Sujan,Go girlfriend!!!

The steak pie is famous and just as enjoyable in the bar with a pint of Guinness as it is in the restaurant with a glass of rioja. Farid not only a charming gentleman but also the Guinea's sommelier has a very trusty range of vino to suit every palet.

I ate at The Guinea last night and found the experience a little disappointing.

The starter, Mediterranean prawns, was pretty tasty. I chose a sirloin with various accoutrements for the main event, but thought it rather indifferent. The cut of meat itself was good, but not of exceptional quality, such as the meat served at Hawksmoor, Barbecoa or Goodman. The potato dauphinoise was grim: the chef used a strangely soggy variety of potato for this dish. The braised fennel, creamed spinach and green salad were all side dishes that were hard to fault.

The wine list is OK, given the fact that The Guinea is in effect a Young's pub with a large grill.

The food was average-to-good, but still not particularly endearing. The ambience at the Guinea is good and the service was attentive. In summary, though, I am not sure I would revisit. Other restaurants do it better for the same price as The Guinea.

We really liked the ambiance, very British but not opulent or tacky. Service was very friendly, attentive and efficient, from the moment you step in, are seated and served dinner. Meat was prepared very well on the grill. On a less positive note tables are really close, so forget privacy and be prepared for noise. Will definitely go back.

Always a must in London. Pies are amazing and the steaks are some of the best in the city for a fair price. Atmosphere is great, small and charming. Wine menu is good and the cocktails are hand made with delight. Only downside is it closes fairly early during the week so late dinners aren't good.
