Description: The Rotunda ethos isn't complicated - great food and a great atmosphere. While our guests go some of the way in ensuring the latter, our canal-side location means we provide the perfect environment in which to relax and enjoy yourself over a hearty meal and a healthy dose of one of our many wines. While here, you'll browse a menu that changes daily and features mouth-watering meat cuts from our own farm in Northumberland.Rotunda - old fashioned about food.

Visited the Rotunda restaurant on a chilly Nov Sunday evening. Its part of the Kings Place venue, which includes concert halls, a cafe and bar. Although off the beaten track behind Kings Cross Station, its a welcoming and busy space.
Swithered between the roast beef dinner, with meat from their own farm in Northumberland and turkey dinner - settling for the latter. The plate really did contain turkey and a' the trimmings - and it was delicious. My friend had fish - pan fried Sea Bream - which she said was great. We shared a platter of cheese for dessert - some usual but tasty British cheeses. Service was excellent. A great start to our evening out at the concert.

Visited with friends, Pre-theatre menu off, only available if there is a performance that night in building!
Had Soup, served from jug at table into a cold bowl, tepid at best before half way through. Main, Liver, overcooked to tough leather taste with what tasted like powered mash.
So two courses with two glasses of cheap wine £35.
Make your own decisions.

I have been to Rotunda several times now and always enjoyed it. For something different I attended the Supper Club event on 4th October. This was a chance to meet the farmer, butcher and chef for the beef used by the restaurant. The farmer Ian gave us a talk regarding how he raises his cows, and all about the husbandry, All his cows are born on his farm and stay there with their mothers until it is time .......... Then whilst the butcher demonstrated how he achieves the various cuts of meats, the chef explained about hanging of beef, why and what it means, as well as which cut is better for what type of dish. A very interesting presentation. We then went through to dinner and had beef and oyster pie to start, salmon and then beef cooked three ways, with desert. Excellent food and the service was friendly and personable. The cost was 45 for the four courses and wine on arrival, excellent value for money. We sampled one of the red wines which was superb and I noted they had won an award for their list. Overall an excellent evening and will certainly be returning, perhaps for another of their supper club nights.

I've seen several poor reviews of the Rotunda, but it seemed fairly good to us. We ate after a concert in King's Place arriving about 21:30. Getting seated seemed complicated, the first desk we waited at wasn't manned, perhaps it just operates for the bar section. After hanging around for a bit we continued to the second reception desk, where they had to fetch the reservations book from the first one. The could do with sorting themselves out here, I think.

There wasn't a huge selection of items on the menu, but I thought it was good enough. My crab salad was above average, plenty of crab but probably made with frozen crab; I then had lambs liver, which was very good, and I got an unusually large portion. We didn't try desserts. The wine selection was a bit limited, unless you have lots of money, but quite a number were available by the glass. The service was fairly good, but quite a few tables were empty at the time, so the waiting staff weren't all that busy.

There is a fair view of the canal, passing ducks etc. but after dark this is a bit limited. For daytime eating, and if it's warm enough to sit outside, the location is a good one, though.

I ate here with some friends and our dog on Sunday. We had walked all the way from Limehouse along the canal and by that time we had worked up a massive appetite. We were so pleased that we chose to eat here as the food was lovely. They have the traditional Sunday Lunch and get their meat from a farm in Nothumberland that they are obviously fairly proud of and so they should be as the Roast was fantastic and the burger looked great which my friend wouldn't share as it was too nice!
The service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was nicely chilled, as we sat by the canal watching people strolling along and waving at kids plodding past on barges. It was made even better when the sun came round and we sat back with full tummies and a great espresso martini, making the perfect finish to a lovely sunny Sunday.
Price wise was reasonable, particularly given the location and provenance of the food, as had you been in little Venice further along the canal, I’m sure you would have paid a higher price for something not half as good.
We shall definitely be returning soon for some more lazy Sundays and maybe even during the week to catch a show.
