Review of Gabeto

Gabeto
Ranked #17,385 of 24,833 Restaurants in London
Price range: USD 18 - USD 44
Description: Gabeto (meaning 'home') is Camden Market's newest restaurant, bar and terrace. A a historic Victorian stable block transformed into a daytime work-space, with casual and formal dining areas, a cocktail bar and a large terrace. Head-Chef Lee Andrews, formerly of Chiltern Firehouse, has created a modern brasserie menu that mixes carefully sourced British ingredients with a hint of Latin flavours whilst we will be serving an ever-changing line-up of street food pop-ups (curated by General Manager Nicol Dwyer who joins from Dinerama) on the outside terrace all year-round.

Came here with my girlfriend for a bottomless prosecco lunch. Enjoyed most of the nibbles on offer, although some were a bit dry. I remember the waitress was very moody, although you would be pouring prosecco and not drinking it. Overall not a bad experience but be warned it can get busy.

Arrived and were shown to our table. Left for about 20 minutes with no one taking even a drinks order.

Eventually, after seeking out the assistance of a waitress, she took our order which was an ordeal at best.

Waited a further 20 minutes for drinks to arrive. Then told that 3-4 of the main dishes that were on the menu that had been ordered by our party were not available.

Total disaster and would not return or recommend. The only saving grace for this restaurant was a manager who understood our complaint and arranged for us to dine at their 'sister' restaurant which ironically had the same dishes on their menu that this restaurant couldn't offer us?

This was at 6 o clock in the evening. So I dread to think what was actually available from the menu come 8 o clock?

We have had a voucher for lunch at another restaurant (Gilgamesh), changed to Gabeto, which we thought that is Cuban cuisine!!
We did not have Cuban food but our food, the first course and the main: fish and fries were really good.
The place is very attractive, huge hall at ground level, very bohemian style, with attractive lamps , pictures, huge bar and open kitchen etc.

I would highly recommend Gabeto on a Friday night for a meal and a dance, it’s a Cuban restaurant that turns into a Latin dance floor at night with dance music on one floor & salsa upstairs a lots of fun. The area around it seems to be happening in general.

The food is good, we had nachos & Patatas bravas, the pulled beef tacos were particularly fantastic. I did expect better from the steak given the price point, and didn’t appreciate that the steak sauces cost an extra £3.

Service was very good, smile and greet at the entrance by the manager and throughout by the servers. Very friendly and approachable, despite us rolling in last minute.

Best part is there is a great atmosphere once the dancing kicks in, everyone’s there to have a good time and you see a lot of people embracing the Latin culture and music, some seem like professional dancers, and some less so, however all are welcome to bust their moves and provide an entertaining evening. The top floor is more focused on salsa-type dancing, again with a range of skills!

Glad we stumbled unpon this place, great memories that will last a lifetime.

We went for a "Latin afternoon tea" at Gabeto. We liked the venue itself, which was relaxed and looked good. The scones and cakes were nice, though they short-changed us on the savouries. We were a party of 10 and we only got savouries for 8. (not sure if that's because we had a voucher). One of the staff members was lovely, very nice man, but another was awful. So overall it was a good experience, though the rude member of staff did spoil it a bit.
