Description: If the Lakes are the jewel in the crown of Britain’s countryside then Miller Howe must be the Queen. Why? Because this restaurant is wearing that jewel well. With the most stunning views possible over the beautifully English Lake Windermere, you probably wouldn’t notice if you were sat on a polyester sofa and served up a Kwiksave ready meal. However, take your eyes off the windows for just a moment and you’ll notice that the surroundings are comfortable, good looking and with somehow more than a little taste of Italy. Although A La Carte options are available, most diners will delight in the Set Menu which boasts the very finest dishes using quality British ingredients.

This little gem is worth a visit but book in advance. The cocktails are creative and the wine will pretty good. Food is good but not an very expansive choice. It is a small dinning area and the bar area is typical decor. We did not stay at the hotel so not comment on that.

My husband and I were early for lunch and we were pleasantly greeted. We decided to have coffee in the conservatory to wait for the rest of the party. The coffee was excellent and properly served by a charming young lady. The conservatory, quite frankly, could have done with a good spring clean but no matter, we were here for lunch, not the décor. When the rest of our party arrived we were given menus and duly chose our first two courses. We were then shown into the wonderful dining room with a view of Lake Windermere. The napiery, crockery and cutlery were impeccable. The bread came in tiny, warm loaves and was delicious. Our meal was presented and cooked to perfection. I had lamb the way I like it, pink and tender and all members of the party deemed theirs was excellent too. The desserts were very interesting and went down very well. If I was being really picky I would have liked a little more care in their presentation. These days, other restaurants are competing hard and dessert presentation is almost the last thing you recall. Don't get in a huff chef but I did feel that you were rushing to get away. I didn't mention this to our party as they loved it all. A nice touch with the coffees and petit fours was that we ordered five coffees and we were brought six of each of the petit fours. Very much appreciated by the non coffee drinker. All in all, a most satisfactory pleasant and excellent value lunch. Thankyou.

We booked for bed, breakfast and evening meal and were impressed. The views of Windermere are stunning. The room was spacious and clean. The evening meal was lovely and the staff attentive. The 'Full English' breakfast was plentiful and set us up for the day.

We ate twice here for dinner (we were guests at this small hotel and bought a dinner bed and breakfast). You normally get an amouse bouche and a starter a main and a desert.

The menu was very thoughtful. If I were to be critical the starters and deserts were excellent but the steak main was slightly chewy and the haddock was a bit dry. We did like the mushroom risotto and the lamb main.

Great staff and service at this restaurant.
