My husband and I stayed here for a night on our way home from our wedding in Northern Ireland. Hotel was easy to find and the views of the lake were beautiful. Room was clean and we loved the patio doors overlooking the lake. Spa was small but a lovely place to chill. We ate dinner in the restaurant and were so glad we went for the full three courses, it was so good. Loved the tuna! Would stay again.

Stayed with a group for 4 nights. The staff are very friendly and most helpful. The situation of the hotel is ideal with varied views of Lake Windermere from the rooms, worth checking when booking. Lounge, Terrace and Dining Room have lovely views.
Hopefully there is ongoing maintenance plan as some areas a little tired but did not effect our stay. There are a lot of stairs and no lift.
Good breakfast buffet both hot and cold plus lots of pastries. Our group dinners were in the main good though some dishes were “interesting “. The dining staff were excellent.
A good hotel as a base if touring The Lakes and comfortable to return to in the evening for a drink and dinner.

Me and my boyfriend booked a mini break this weekend and had an enjoyable stay. Emperor bed lovely and comfortable, clean and tidy hotel room. Food was fantastic and lovely choice of gins. We enjoyed the empty spa to relax in. Lovely views and we had our own outside area to sit in. Only let down was the jacuzzi bath wasn’t working in room and the spa steam room had a deathly smell inside. All little things that could be easily fixed. Girls on reception could do with some extra training as didn’t seem very confident/ know what they were doing. Restaurant staff were fab and attentive.

Overall we had a lovely quiet and relaxing stay and the hot tub outside in the spa was fantastic. However the downside was the price paid for what you got. The room was very tired and mouldy in places. Nice patio area that we paid extra for but would have been nice to have had cushions on the chair. Breakfast was good and lots of choice. Spa area nice too.
It was just the room and hotel in general that is in some serious need of renovation. I've paid less for nicer rooms elsewhere. What you're paying for here is the spa, location, views and the quiet

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. You did say that overall you had a lovely relaxing stay with us, so I was a little surprised you rated your stay as low as you did. You didn’t book one of our recently refurbished rooms, the room booked was indeed one of our Select bedrooms, these do offer other lovely touches, such as Spa baths, terrace areas and of course that amazing view. Had you informed a member of my team that you would have preferred to move, I’m sure this would have been possible. The cushions for the patio furniture are located in the top of the wardrobe in your bedroom. This is detailed in the guest information pack. During good weather the housekeeping team do set them out for guests before arrival.

Regarding renovation work, we have just undergone a full refurbishment of our public areas, this includes the main lounge and bar area, as well as the dining room as well. We have also just fitted new carpets throughout the entire hotel, and recently fully refurbished several bedrooms, including all our family rooms. We are a privately owned and ran hotel, and as such we operate a rolling refurbishment programme, this also allows us to be more individual than many large brand hotels.
I hope that from your review you enjoyed your stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future, I would recommend booking directly with our in-house reservations team, and ensuring a refurbished bedroom.

Kind regards

Jonathan

Very expensive for what it is. Don't get me wrong, fantastic views & good location but, that's it. Rooms are run down & shabby and really disappointing. They've built a new spa & stuck it on the side of the old building and not renovated the hotel or the rooms. The outdoor hot tub at night was brilliant. The bed was uncomfortable, saggy. No air conditioning in rooms either so in the rooms with a view, on a sunny day your room is like a sauna. Wrotten windows, mouldy curtains & the restaurant is expensive and tries to be something it's not instead of just cooking good quality local produce. Room service strangely stops early at 8.30. Staff are friendly & helpful albeit we're a gay couple and when we checked in after booking a double room we were asked by reception if we were sure we wanted just 1 room which, was a little embarrassing. Our neighbours had covers & cushions on their chairs on the patio too so they could sit out and enjoy the view but, oddly, we didn't for our entire stay.. could be a really good hotel but compared to other 4 star hotels we've stayed in there just isn't enough attention to detail or service.

This review has been posted by the same guests as the review above titled " Disappointing"
I would just like to point out the restaurant does cook good quality local produce, so I really don't understand that comment to be honest. The main room serviced menu that offers a wide range of starters, main course and desserts is available until 9pm. We then offer a more simple menu 24 hours, so again, the information posted is incorrect.
I'm sorry you found aspects of your stay below standard, again, I feel if you had brought some of these things to our attention at the time we could have resolved them.

Kind regards

Jonathan
