“Great for all the family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

Centre Parcs have recently become a favourite in our family. Whinfell allows you to be as busy or relaxed as you want to be. The best bit - no traffic! If you like dining out or spending your evenings in a bar then take plenty of money as the prices are a bit top heavy. Staff very friendly and nothing is too much trouble but sometimes slow service in restaurants. Lots for kids to do. Excellent swimming complex which we HAD to visit every day. Would definately return. Lots of great wildlife too.

Room Tip: We've stayed in the comfort, comfort plus and executive and can happily say they are all cleaned...

After years of taking our children on short breaks to Center Parcs we are now taking our six grandchildren, age range 13 months - 7 years. Be warned there are very few activities for the 'tiny ones'. It was advertised in the sport complex that there would be play from 9 a.m. On trying to book, we were told this was only available during term time! We were told there were soft play areas for the toddlers - these are very poor and not clean, the children can easily find their way out and it is always where people are carrying hot food. The outdoor play area was better but as the weather was wet these could not be used. We will not be returning until the 'tiny ones' are older

Had a great time perfect for 9-14 year olds. Service was slow in all of the restaurants but friendly. Would definitly go back.

Although Centerparcs allow you to stay in lovely tranquil surroundings in comfortable accommodation, the activities are very pricey. Also, eating out and buying drinks can be very expensive. My husband almost had a coronary when he paid for a pint of lager!!Try pre booking your activities, my 7year old was so upset not to be able to do roller blading when it was fully booked a day before.

We like Center Parcs you can tell from the repeat visits !

This year we stayed in Comfort plus accomodation, they are showing their age somewhat but seem to have a bit more room than the new Woodland style lodges. Kitchen is well equipped and as it was cold we enjoyed using the fire ( logs are expensive from the shop though). Bathroom is very basic and shower a bit unpredictable.

To be honest though as long as the accomodation is clean and acceptable we don't really mind, we are there to meet up with friends, enjoy being able to cycle around and spend lots of time in the pool. Top tip for the pool if you are coming for the weekend arrive early afternoon and go swimming straight away, pool is not busy.

This time we booked archery for our son a well organised activity and reasonably priced. Unfortunately he didn't really enjoy it so we decided to cancel tennis for the afternoon - you may not know that if you aren't able to go to activities within the 24 hr cancellation period, you can transfer the cost to another activity. We decided to do the family treasure trail - complete rip off, charged per person £4.50 per adult and £3.50 per child for a treasure trail map, prizes may have been ok don't know as it took to long to get to the first clue so we gave up ( have 5 year old)

I went to the spa with a friend, good as ever and reasonably priced but very very busy so not recommended if you are looking for a truly relaxing experience.

Retaurant/food wise, Cafe Rouge reliably good, less impressed by Bella Italia. We had the carvery at the Lakeside Inn on Saturday night as we did the pub quiz (good fun) and it was off a high standard but quite expensive. Foolishly we ended up with a takeaway on the first night and as per last year I found it not to be of great quality and not cheap at all - think all the takeaway food is made in one central location rather than from the individual restaurants. We were unable to eat in the indian as it was fully booked out for the weekend, so recommend that you book in advance for it.

Highly recommend this place for those with children, staff are unfailingly polite and friendly, we are already booking for next year again.
