“Very very good”
Reviewed 21 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We have just got back from a wonderful week in the lakes. Gillbank is a great house in a great location. Far enough from the nearest town ( hawkshead) for perfect tranquility, but near enough to walk back from the pub.
The hill behind the house (latterbarrow) is a perfect choice for a first walk and after that the options are endless. After days walking the fells, coming back to gillbank and lighting a real fire was a much appreciated luxury. We adored the place and would love to come back soon.

“Ideal Weekend Away”

My partner and I went on a last minute escape to the country and stayed in Gilbank cottage. Geoff was nothing but accommodating and even came to meet and greet us all the way from Yorkshire. He made sure we settled in properly and was a fountain of knowledge about the local area. The cottage was beautifully situated within a stunning landscape, but wasn't too far from local amenities for convenience.
There was an array of things to see and do - much more than we could try to fit into 4 days - and Geoff had prepared the cottage for every eventuality (torches, maps, wood for the fire etc).
The local village of Hawkshead was lovely and perfect for pubs, afternoon teas and gift shopping, but Windermere and Ambleside were only a short drive away for eating out and exploring.
The cottage allowed us to completely immerse ourselves in the beautiful countryside, and gave us a home from home experience. We look forward to going back again in the future and couldn't recommend it strongly enough.

“Excellent, couldn't have wanted more!”
Reviewed 20 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

A group of 4 of us visited in September 2015. Geoff waited up till 1 in the morning to greet us at the house and couldn't have been more hospitable or helpful. The house is beautifully situated and everything inside is very new and high spec, which was brilliant. Hugely enjoyed the stay and would have no hesitation in recommending.

“A peaceful Lakeland hide away!”
Reviewed 16 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We were lucky enough to stay at this cottage back in 2008 to 2010 and by chance discovered it was available once again. Situated on a private drive it is impossible to describe the peace and tranquility without actually being there. For lovers of wild nightlife this is not the place for you but for those you simply want to relax and enjoy simple pleasures, whether it be a walk up to Latterbarrow to look over Windermere, Ambleside and Wray Castle, or drink wine in the garden watching the birds you would find it hard to find a more serene location. Geoff, the very charismatic owner will delight in showing you all that is available in and around the cottage and has invested heavily in bringing the cottage up to date with the renovated bathroom and kitchen, including a dishwasher (bliss!) and at this time of year the central heating is simply not required due to the fabulous log burner with candles and Simon and Garfunkel playing softly in the background! There are also provisions for younger ones so grandchildren are also catered for. I digress, from waxing lyrical! If you want a large helping of P&Q with beautiful surroundings then this is the place for you. We have already booked next year. I could not recommend this cottage higher. try it once and you will be back.

“Great location and cottage”
Reviewed 17 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The cottage was absolutely lovely. Everything we could have imagined and more.
It was very clean and modern in the kitchen and bathroom, but at the same told had a lot of character throughout. The living room and log burner were an amazing addition that we really enjoyed.

Working with Geoff was brilliant. He was informative and helpful and gave good recommendations that made our trip a success.

The walks around the area are gorgeous and we had a lot of fun wandering.
