As a group of 12 friends looking to mountain bike in the Lake District, finding the right property that can accommodate all of us and house our bikes safely is a challenge in it's own right. SBM proved to be the perfect venue. Large enough for not only all of us to sleep comfortably, but also for us to eat together, cook together and socialise. Huge plus was the large secure bike shed kitted out for bikes, with a hose to clean and a great rack to store them. Bonus was the charging facilities for the eBike we had too. SBM is located perfectly, with 2 great pubs close by, and endless opportunities to ride on trails which can be accessed from the house, including the Grizedale MTB park and Warna Scar run both of which are just a short ride away. You won't need to drive too far for lots more epic rides either.
Having access to the lake and the boats available for use were excellent too, throw in the indoor tennis centre just 20 mins away and you have a perfect sporting holiday location.
We have stayed at Sunny Bank Mill Cottages many times. The location is stunning, walking through their grounds to the lake make it perfect for dog owners and children. Wren cottage is very cosy, lovely views over the fields and down to the lake. The cottages are well placed for walking, you can give the car a rest and take the lake path to Coniston, or cross the road and explore the fells with two glorious tarns to find, peace perfect peace.
We had a fantastic week in Sunny Bank Mill. There were 11 in our group, including 5 quite young children, but the house had plenty of room for all of us and it had all of the facilities that we needed. Although the house is quite close to an A road, it was very quiet and safe. The garden, barbeque and summer house were very good, and the boats were fantastic ! We had all of the necessary equipment to take everyone out safely on the lake. The walk to Coniston took 1.5 hours and was very pleasant, and the rest of the Lakes are well within reach.
Great set-up, very well equipped cottage with masses of space inside and out and everything we needed - the badminton nets and BBQ were put to good use! Owners were friendly and helpful prior to our stay and the cottage was exactly what we wanted. Situated between a stunning little river and the lake, this was perfect for our group of friends to relax, enjoy the surroundings and paddle to our hearts content! Definitely recommend a little cliff-jumping trip to the nearby Torver Quarry for those in need of an adrenaline rush and Fat Flour artisan bakery in nearby Coniston kept our bellies full! Three Shires Inn deserves a mention for a fantastic selection of ales and great food. Would recommend the area for exploring the South Lakes and we will be back for more!
We stayed here as a family group of all ages and were very impressed by the comfortable and very flexible accommodation provided by this large house which is perfectly situated for messing about in boats, walking or cycling in the surrounding countryside or simply relaxing in the beautiful grounds. The set-up is ideal for an active family and we particularly appreciated the generous, safe bike storage and the shower/changing area that could be accessed directly from outside at the back of the house. The practicality extended to the kitchen which was more than adequately equipped to prepare large family meals, and the dining room, which could seat us all comfortably. There were loads of places to relax, whether it was the large and comfortable living room, the cosy cinema room or the fantastically positioned summerhouse right next to the stream. Truly something for everyone to enjoy here. Highly recommended.
