We stayed here as a family group of all ages and were very impressed by the comfortable and very flexible accommodation provided by this large house which is perfectly situated for messing about in boats, walking or cycling in the surrounding countryside or simply relaxing in the beautiful grounds. The set-up is ideal for an active family and we particularly appreciated the generous, safe bike storage and the shower/changing area that could be accessed directly from outside at the back of the house. The practicality extended to the kitchen which was more than adequately equipped to prepare large family meals, and the dining room, which could seat us all comfortably. There were loads of places to relax, whether it was the large and comfortable living room, the cosy cinema room or the fantastically positioned summerhouse right next to the stream. Truly something for everyone to enjoy here. Highly recommended.
Just the most wonderful place. Dog and child friendly, huge downstairs layout meaning even with a houseful it didn't feel cramped. But the spectacular location between a stream and Coniston Water with private access to both is the best bit, the enormous garden/ wood/ beach with jetty (in photo) kept the kids and dogs busy all week. Kitchen big enough for all of us, rooms clean and comfy. Back entrance perfect with washer/ tumbler and loads of hanging space for wet washing. Boats and equipment avail as an extra well worth booking for a trip to 'Wild Cat Island' - take a picnic with you. Can't fault this place and have already rebooked.
Having just spent a week at SBM for my 70th birthday together with brothers and sister, son, daughter, their spouses and 3 grandchildren,(13 of us in total} I can highly recommend this venue for similar gatherings. The whole place was clean and well-equipped for all 3 generations with lots of toys and games for the grandchildren. The kitchen had everything to cater for 14 people with 2 toasters,2 kettles, 2 fridges, freezer with ice maker. You lacked nothing! The bedrooms were all large enough with newly fitted en suites in most of them. There was a continuous supply of logs, kindling, and firelighters for the log burner in the spacious lounge. The garden was well tended with a path along stream and although we didn't make use of the summer house due to the weather I can see that in the summer it would be a favourite place to sit whilst having a BBQ.
The house was initially just a means of being able to get a large group together under the same roof for a pre-christmas get together, but it turned out to be a great deal more. The house is fantastic, so much space for people to get together in a large group without being cramped or even spread out for a little quiet time. Clean and delightful with every facility you could need. The only negative was that the house did get a bit cold during the night, but I'm sure we could have rectified that if we'd really needed. On top of all the above was the location itself, just stunning. A long weekend enjoyed by all four generations, from 18 months to Great Granny, oh and of course the dogs. Discussions already underway about booking again for next year and even a mid-year get together

As a large group of couples this house was especially suitable with 7 double or twin bedrooms, each with an ensurite or nearby bathroom. It was well equipped to cope with a large group with a large lounge, a dining table that would seat us all and ample cooking equipment. There were good pubs a short drive away in Torver and Coniston. The house has boats which can be hired for the week which we used on Coniston Water, accessible from the cottage grounds, visiting the nearby island from Swallows and Amazons. There was plenty to do in the area with picturesque lower level walks, Grizedale Forest for cycling and other forestry activities, and higher mountains for the more adventurous including the nearby Old Man of Coniston. We had a great week and left feeling there was plenty more we could do in the area. A thumbs up from everyone involved.
