“A very comfortable cottage for a couple”

Church View Cottage is ideal for a visit to Cockermouth or the Lakes and is well furnished throughout and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is small, but has adequate basic equipment for self catering, though we ate out mostly. There's an excellent pub practically next door, too.

Parking is available with a free disc system nearby and the town centre is just yards away.

There is now no log burner but the electric log effect is very efficient and took the chill off the air very quickly. TV reception is good with a variety of channels available.

We are a discerning retired couple and really enjoyed the cosy cottage and hope to return at some point.

Many thanks Bob and Liz.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. An opportunity to mention that the excellent pub ( along with other great pubs and cafes in town) offers free wifi.

“It's about the location”
Reviewed 1 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

This is a small cottage in a good spot for pubs and restaurants. There is local parking, but be prepared to be moving the car to fit in with the local parking restrictions.

We did not use the kitchen, except to boil the kettle (there are plenty of excellent choices for eating out with a short walk), but from what we saw the facilities are limited if you are planning on eating in most of the time.

The upstairs are better than downstairs, although it is fine for a weekend base and everything is clean. We knew there was no wifi when we booked, but adding it would be a big improvement.

Bearing in mind the price we paid it represented good value for money.

“Convenient location”
Reviewed 22 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Very centrally located and convenient for all amenities. We liked bedroom and bathroom ok but the downstairs part let it down a bit. What we would have appreciated was a few more cups/mugs and a proper non-stick frying pan and a hairdryer. Also some more bin bags and outside bin needs sorting.

“Great Base for Lake District walks”
Reviewed 25 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The cottage was small and quite basic but then you can tell all this from looking at the details and it was cheap. That said there was just the 2 of us and a dog so how much room do you really need anyway?

We'd never been to Cockermouth before and really loved it. The cottage was handily located for town centre shops etc. There are plenty of nice pubs and a restaurants and good value for money. It's an excellent base for walking in the Lake District generally.

Only downside was the parking which can be a problem. Also no WiFi but then the pub next door (the Bitter End) does WiFi and it's dog friendly to a degree so not really an issue.

“"Charming Cottage"”
Reviewed 3 February 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We stayed at this lovely cottage over Christmas and New Year. We first stayed in September and enjoyed it so much, We actually forfeited a £200 deposit on another property( which is A LOT of money to us) to return at Christmas.
We arrived to find a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, a bottle of bubbly and even a Christmas card!
Bob and Liz could not have done more.
The place was absolutely spotless- and as a slight sufferer of Cleanliness OCD, this is extremely important to me.
I am also an avid cook, so as far as the pevious review states regarding basic equipment- I completely disagree. As far as wifi - there are also spots in centre London where this is not available- all you have to do is take ONE step outside the front door- "wandering about town" Hardly!
Yes the woodburner has been removed- the building is over 300 years old- but to be honest- the replacement still looks rustic, is totally in keeping with the cottage and is faaar less hassle!!
I would reconmend the previous couple check into The Ritz next time
