We rented this cottage last minute after deciding to get away for a couple of days to cheer our friend up.
Liz the owner is brilliant and answers all questions should you need to contact her.
When we arrived we found the cottage straight away and pulled up into the drive way. WOW!! The gardens are amazing, well looked after and the view from the decking area by the cottage was beautiful. The gardens are very secure and brilliant should you wish to bring a dog or in our case dogs.
I have read a few reviews on here with people moaning about little things such as traffic and having no mobile phone coverage. Get a grip. Do you think the owner is a wizard and controls traffic and phone signal?
Brilliant few days and lovely cottage.
We have just returned from a lovely stay at Halfway House.
On arrival, we all yelped in excitement as we scrambled out of the car. This little cottage is full character and (I say it's little but it's not really) has a lot to offer. It's less than a 10 minute drive from the bustling town of Ambleside. Even though the house is situated right on the main road, once you see the gardens and lake, the road is instantly forgotten.
It has three large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a delightful large lounge with an inglenook fireplace and a wonderful bright kitchen/diner with French doors opening to a decked area overlooking the garden and lake.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay. We only wish we could stay longer. Dream cottage.
A nice Cottage with great kitchen and livivng area. Close to Ambleside. Quiet with a nice little garden. Parking OK for 4 large cars.
Fantastic location, great to be able to take our dog on holiday too.
There is a footpath directly opposite the cottage which meant we didn't have to take the car out at all.
The kitchen was very well equipped. One bedroom has an ensuite which was great.
There is no mobile phone signal, wifi or a landline so you are quite cut off. There was a list of useful phone numbers which seemed a bit irrelevant if you can't call them!
The dining room chairs and leather sofa weren't particularly comfy but the overall cottage was a nice play to stay. I would book again.
The information pack I think could be improved with better map print outs and suggested walks.
We had a long weekend at Halfway House in December and were utterly delighted by both the house and the views. The house is fascinating and beautifully decorated and furnished - located in a quiet spot but convenient for Ambleside, Windermere and Coniston, all of which we visited. The peace and quiet made for a wonderful break - we will definitely be back!
Liz was very helpful from booking right through to our stay and the welcome gesture of a bottle of wine was much appreciated.
