We couldn't have left happier after our evening at Cafe Mauresque. The food was excellent. We had the seafood platter & lamb-shanks tangine. The lamb was tender with a rich fig sauce. The waiting staff were charming and efficient. We enjoyed the nostalgia of the Gypsy Kings soundtrack and the North African inspired decor - the dark interior enlivened by attractive decorative tiles - as my daughter said at the end of the night it felt like we'd been transported away somewhere.

We'd been before with friends and had a great meal. 2nd time round was a bit of a let down. Not sure if the lighting had changed but the restaurant, downstairs looked quite grotty and in need of some TLC; when we'd been previously a couple of months earlier there was quite a cosy ambience. The food was ok - good shared starter of Moorish platter but my tagine was a disappointment ; really watery and quite flavourless, whereas my husbands' was much thicker and almost like a curry sauce.

We won't be returning.

Second visit and will definitely be returning. Only had the meze starters each time, but they are delicious - especially the hummus. The food is very fresh, full of flavour and obviously home cooked. The service is excellent, very attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.
