“Great Lakeside Upside Down House”
Reviewed 26 February 2018 for a stay in February 2018

The house was lovely, spacious warm and comfortable with lovely views over the lake. It had a well equipped kitchen and everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. One observation - The beds are very low to the ground, though comfortable I imagine an older person might struggle to get up.The on-site amenities were very good, just as described. The pool was busy as it was school holidays but we enjoyed the exclusively adult swim times. There was an easy stroll to a local pub. Overall a great place to stay with easily enough room for the 10 of us and we had a very relaxing time.

“Good house for a family get together before Christmas”
Reviewed 22 December 2017 for a stay in December 2017

The house was on 3 floors with the living area at the top of the building. You need to be fit to keep climbing the stairs to take shopping up to the fridge! The bedrooms were as described except that all the beds were only about 1 foot off the floor which is fine unless like my husband and I, we both have knee and hip problems which meant we could get into bed, ie drop into bed, but it was a real struggle to get out of bed again. Luckily we were only there for 2 nights! The bedrooms with ensuites were a good size and there was plenty of room to fit in the travel cots which we needed for the grandchildren. However, 2 of the bedrooms which had twin beds and a large bunk bed in were quite small and really only just ok for adults to use. The house was warm and the linens were of good quality.
Considering the house was advertised as sleeping 10 + 2, I was somewhat surprised to find that there was only a single oven which was at floor level. This we found quite a safety problem since we had 2 toddlers with us and had to keep a really good eye on them in the kitchen area. Unfortunately the large built in microwave oven was not working and although there was a stand alone replacement, it took up valuable counter space! It was also quite small which proved difficult when trying to heat up large bowls of vegetables etc. The fridge freezer was only just big enough to store food for 10 people and that was with all cold drinks and cheese being stored outside on the terrace - luckily it was cold enough to do that! One of the door shelves was held on by A PLASTER which gave way on one occasion and spilled the contents out onto the floor when the door was opened. This was not used again.
We enjoyed the situation of the property being near the start of a nature trail. However, we had 5 couples (10 adults) arriving from all over the country and the car parking was somewhat difficult. We actually staggered our arrival to accommodate that and managed to park the cars in visitors car parking. The space for 27 Howells Mere is actually not outside the property but in the bay opposite! Unloading cars needed to be managed quite well. I expect during busy periods in the summer, it could be a real problem.
Our weekend was enjoyable despite our difficulties but due to the low beds, we will not be considering a return visit!

Many thanks for your detailed review. We are delighted that you had a good pre-Christmas stay.
We are extremely sorry that you had issues with low beds in one of the bedrooms. We have not changed the beds since the pictures were taken and we try very hard to manage our guests expectations but if these were raised at the time of the booking we could have proposed alternative accommodation.

Howells Mere 27 is an architecturally stunning 3 storey house town house with living and dining on the top floor which has its advantages as regards the view but clearly not an ideal choice for those who have difficulty with stairs.

The bedrooms are just as you described some smaller some larger, we always stress which are able to accommodate the cots and z bed.

This property has a single oven as shown in the kitchen picture, sadly the lay out of the kitchen cannot accommodate anything larger, the majority of the properties have low level ovens or ranges rather than being at eye level.

The fridge is full size with a smaller freezer compartment & is pretty standard for a built in unit.

Thank you for highlighting the shelf issue, unfortunately they can fail if over filled.

When guests book our contract explains that each property has 1 parking space and the rest of the cars must be parked in visitor’s bays that are right outside the house or the overflow car park the parking space is about 12 steps away from the front door. Lower mill is a nature reserve that encourages use of bikes and lots of walking, for that reason cars are kept in designated areas and in the case of HM27 the overflow car park is a matter 2 minutes away from the house.

If this one is full then another one is available 5 minutes away.

Again, we are very sorry that the beds would stop you from booking this property again, however, we are happy to recommend other more suitable properties should you decide to visit us again.

“Perfect weekend location”
Reviewed 6 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The Estate setting was perfect, quiet, clean , well organised, secure. The lakes were superb for water sports and wild life with on site Spa and swimming pools.
The house was just what we needed for a family weekend, it slept 6 adults and 6 large children comfortably, plenty of space for eating indoors or outside on the large balcony. The children could launch kayaks and paddle boards from the house while the adults relaxed on one of the 3 terraces. The house was very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Only very trivial complaint was the very low beds with hard wooden frames.
The Estate is convenient for viewing the many interesting places around but we enjoyed the house so much and there was so much to do that we didn't leave it all weekend!

“The most perfect getaway”
Reviewed 19 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We have just spent the week here with children ranging from 8 to 15 and grandparents everyone loved it! The estate is fantastic and has such a clean and safe environment and the kids did not stop the whole time swimming cycling tennis and football! We also took the dogs and they had a fab time! The house is faultless absolutely gorgeous we did not want to leave, everything is there and so organised and the owners are so friendly and helpful can't wait to go back next year!

“Ideal for family gathering”
Reviewed 20 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

The house was beautifully light, well equipped and warm. There were eight of us, my wife and I and our three children and their partners. We were comfortably accommodated with everything we needed. The estate was quite quiet even though it was half term, we enjoyed the pool, sauna, steam room and restaurant.
The daunting list of rules received on booking was somewhat off-putting, but may have been a requirement of the estate rather than the owners.

Management Response
20 Feb 2017
Hi Chris
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It's so good to hear that the improvements we have made are being appreciated. As you have rightly remarked we have to share the list of rules with you as a part of the estate requirements and whilst we were do agree that it can be a little off putting, it is a great deterrent for hens, stags and house party type of gatherings. Sadly the estate management has experienced issues in the past and as a result had to adopt this policy, which in return has improved the overall experience for families staying on Lower Mill estate.
We do hope to be of service to you again.
