“3rd time at this amazing holiday home.”
Reviewed 14 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We have just returned from our 3rd trip to Middle Gable. As ever, the house was all you could want and more, for a relaxing and comfortable stay in Bourton on the Water.
This is a beautiful period home in a quiet, yet convenient location. The Accommodation is spacious and clean and the decor is in keeping with the age and style of the property. The four poster bed is a real luxury.
The new addition of wifi was very welcome.
We stay in Autumn or spring to take advantage of Bourton in it's quieter periods. There is no shortage of places to eat and there's a fabulous artisan baker just a few steps away from the property.
Chris and Kate, the owners, are very friendly, accommodating and helpful, as are the neighbours.

“Beautiful cottage in an amazing location. Would welcome a few extra specials.....”

This cottage is beautiful. Generous in character and in a fabulous location......a few minutes walk to Bourton village. The garden is also spacious and welcoming with the sunshine all day long, making the lavender bed at the front gloriously scented. We had a lovely take away from the local Chinese, with enough for us all and more! There are lots of good local shops/supermarkets if needed. We had great weather all week, and with 3 children we enjoyed some great days out...Warwick Castle Is a must (expensive so make sure you take your 2 for 1 coupons or book online 7 days in advance). Adams Farm ... Is interesting and the kids enjoyed. A day out in Oxford very busy but a lovely walk round. Cotswolds Wildlife Park was probably the best day out....loads to do and enjoy for all of us, the animals were lovely and play areas great.
There were just a couple of things missing from our holiday that would have provided some practical perfection, which we've enjoyed at other rentals....maybe a welcome parcel with local produce milk, eggs, bread, wine. The information guide in the cottage wasn't as informative/professional as we would have liked. Also an iron/&board would be useful.
Notwithstanding this we had a wonderful week, and feel lucky to have enjoyed this Character Cottage.

Management Response
12 Sep 2013
This response is from the owner of the cottage:
Dear Guest,

We value your review, thank you.
With reference to the iron and ironing board, we have, in the past, had a rather expensive problem caused by a guest leaving a hot iron on a real wood worktop which caused £700 of damage and almost a fire, as a result we no longer provide an iron or ironing board in our properties - once bitten twice shy!

There is a laundry offering an ironing service within walking distance of Middle Gable. Also, we do not provide food because different people have very different dietry needs! Local food shops are a short walk away...

We hope to see you again!

“Best Rental in the Cotswolds”

My husband did a lot of research on the various rentals available in this area and came up with Middle Gable as the best choice. AND IT WAS! We spent two idyllic weeks here. The village is a wonderful little place with lots of attractions and shops, but not too overbearingly touristy. And, there is a very convenient grocery, small, but well stocked. The cottage was just a short walk from the high street (with a convenient pub along the way). The cottage was magnificient! The heated stone floor was amazing. The kitchen was well appointed and the bathrooms and bedrooms extremely well furnished and CLEAN! We are hoping to go back there soon. Meanwhile, some friends of ours (based on our recommendation) have already booked there for a week in September (2013). The management folks made it extremely easy to make all the reservations, payments and detailed directions. This was our first time renting a place like this, so we were "newbies". In addition, the neighbors were great people and very helpful. The people at the pubs made us feel like "locals".

“Truly beautiful garden, spectacular”

Middle Gable is a touch of English country beauty. We sat for an hour in the garden each evening simply gazing, watching the bumble bees on the lavender bush. Walking around the property was a delight for th eyes. Simply stunning gardens, glorious perfumes wafting from the flowers. The town is quaint and functional. We ate in every night caus the kitchen was well equipped with a homely touch. You can get giddy on the floor ipstairs which is old wooden beams, a bit wonky but part of the charm

What a delight. A fascinating 17th century property just metres from the heart of one of the most picturesque villages in this part of the country. I would heartily recommend Middle Gable to anyone wanting a memorable experience with all the comforts of home. A special thank you to the owners for their excellent communication and their attention to detail in creating a lovely place to enjoy the best of the Cotswolds. A special thank you to the most wonderful neighbours who made our short stay even more memorable - also Rosie and her Queen Anne gait!
