“a hidden gem”
Reviewed 28 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Well what can we say?
An absolute gem of a place, beautiful surroundings, gardens, accommodation, hot tub and swimming pool!!
Top this off with Peter and Karen the owners who are so friendly and started our holiday off with freshly laid eggs and a bottle of prosecco.
Peter's knowledge of the local area is astounding.
We had red hot weather to add to this 4 day break, however there are so many places to visit that even if the weather wasn't as good still book!!
Do not hesitate!!!!

It was really lovely to have you both at Blackthorn. Thank you for the review, and we hope you will have the chance to return someday... You took in the town of Battle and its historic battlefield, visited Beachy Head, canoed along the river Rother and discovered Bodiam Castle, but now know that there is so much more to enjoy in this special area if you should decide to return... We hope you do! Best wishes, P K & O

Karen and I are really happy you enjoyed your anniversary weekend - despite the weather being a bit unpredictable at times.
Yes, please come back for longer next time if you can... As you know, you've only just scratched the surface in what this special part of East Sussex has to offer!
See you both again soon.

“Second visit but not our last!”
Reviewed 4 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This was our second visit to Blackthorn and it was as amazing as the first time. We absolutely love the lodge and grounds and enjoyed relaxing in the sun on the balcony overlooking the gorgeous scenery. Peter and Karen are fantastic hosts, so helpful and welcoming. The hot tub is a great place to sit and watch the stars, we barely left Blackthorn as it is so relaxing and homely. Everything you could need is provided and it is spotless!!
Thanks for another amazing weekend, we will be back!!

Thanks so much for the great review. You made the most again of your short time here, and we're glad you had a successful and relaxing break. You also experienced the scenic route through the Brede Valley to one of the best pubs in the area too!

“Peaceful, luxurious stay”
Reviewed 23 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Blackthorn is well positioned for days out; Winchelsea is a few minutes away and Rye and Hastings are just down the road (literally). Bodiam Castle and Sissinghurst are not too far if you like houses and gardens. And the icing on the cake was the exclusive use of the indoor pool and the hot tub, plus relaxation among the colourful gardens of the property.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave the lovely review. I'm glad you discovered a lot of the local area, but sorry I didn't tell you about getting a boat up to the castle from the Bodiam Boating Station and the opportunity to catch a steam train back, until you'd already visited the castle by car! Anyway as you now know from exploring this beautiful corner of Sussex, there a lot of grand country houses and beautiful gardens to enjoy without having to travel too far: Great Dixter, Pashley Manor Gardens, King John's Lodge, Hole Park, and Kipling's Batemans for example, as well as numerous lesser known Open Gardens in the National Gardens Scheme. We are really spoilt for choice in so many ways... Thank you again for the great review.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed 1 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Eden! We had a wonderful few days at Blackthorn. Both Peter and Karen were excellent hosts and the cottage was immaculate. What a treat to wake up in the morning and see rabbits scampering around the superb grounds - it was so peaceful and will be our bolt hole in the future. Thank you both so much for allowing us to share your lovely place. Our stay was quite simply ' fabulous'.

Thank you so much for the complimentary review, and thank you for booking Blackthorn again later in the summer! I'm not sure I'd refer to the grounds as 'superb' - that may give readers a slightly false impression of my efforts - but the ol' gardener does his best... There are certainly a LOT of rabbits at the moment helping me keep the grass short! Have a lovely couple of months, and we look forward to welcoming you both again in the near future.
