Given the rave reviews and a special occasion, I was hoping that our lunch would be memorable. We weren't disappointed. Inventive but not pretentious, the surprising taste and texture combinations made for a really special culinary treat. Friendly and knowledgeable staff; great to be able to thank the chefs in person over the pass. Keep up the good work, can't wait to come back.

We visited this restaurant after being recommended it by the Regency secure parking guy. It was a pre birthday meal for my husband and we had anticipated going somewhere else but the weather was so awful and we were staying in a hotel a few steps away from The Set so decided to dine close by. Best decision we have made.
We had originally popped in to take a look at the place as we knew it was small and they had 1 table left. Not bad for a Tuesday evening but the place does only seat 20.
As others have said the whole concept is around a set menu . We chose menu 1 and 2 but didn't go for the wine pairing . I think in total we had 8 courses. Thank goodness the plates were not over portioned . I can honestly say that every course was a triumph, both of us enjoyed it so much.
It's a very quirky venue small but comfortable. The kitchen is visible to one side in fact 4 diners can be sat at the pass watching the chefs at work. The young staff were very knowledgable about the dishes and presented them in a professional manner. Considering they explain each dish in detail to every table it did not come across as if they were just going through the motions. Our bill was £99 including a nice bottle of wine. Not cheap but definitely worth it especially for a celebration.
All in all I felt I had to give it 5 stars as we thought it warranted this. We have dined in some fairly fancy restaurants including Restaurant Gordon Ramsey and this meal has to up there with one of the best dining experiences we've had.
Well done to everyone who works there . Keep on doing what you do.

The Set has always had great staff and superb food, but they now offer a £20 lunch menu (Mon-Fri) which is fantastic value for 3 courses plus canapés.
The portion size is ideal, the flavours & textures shine through; and you leave feeling 'I could just have another bite more'.
Cannot recommend the Set highly enough. Definitely the best proper food restaurant in Brighton & Hove
