Have been visiting this pub for years. Usually after a bike ride from london. Have always enjoyed it as a quiet place to have a (well deserved) pint & mediocre fish & chips from next door.
Recently the number of real ales has been declining, being replaced with craft beers & ciders. Today there was only 1 real ale, a well presented pale ale. (I have no problem with craft beers, but the minimum was ~6%, which is too much for a sunny mid-afternoon pint!)
However the problem was with the new neighbors, or rather the reaction to them. The new bar which has opened alongside plays LOUD MUSIC! Rather than let it be, or negotiate them turning it down. The fortune has seemingly tried to retaliate by drowning then out. The result was an awful cacophony of both sound systems, which drove me & my aching body onto the uncomfortable beach.
The staff were as friendly & helpful as ever, the beer was great but the ambience has been destroyed! Hence the low overall rating which otherwise would have been four or five stars.
