We stayed for a night in one of the sea-facing yin-yang rooms. The free-standing bath was a major attraction in making the booking and it didn't disappoint. The room is not generous but it's cleverly designed and well-appointed and the views of the pier from the bath are great! The service at the hotel was lovely and it's brilliantly located on the seafront near Kemptown (ton?). My only gripe is kind of petty but what's the point of the wet room shower/bathroom that wets the toilet paper?

We have stayed at Drakes twice and both times our experience has been very good. The location is perfect if you want to be close to everything but not in the middle of it all. The rooms are very modern and have the most comfortable beds ever - so much so that we found out the make and bought one for ourselves!! We stayed in one of the Bijous City Double rooms which although very nice and with a free standing bath was very small. On our first stay we had a problem with the air conditioning leaking which when we reported it was sorted out asap with no problems and for the inconvenience we were offered a free room upgrade next time we stayed which was honoured about 6 months later. It is fairly expensive I think (especially with breakfast not included) so we have stayed in different cheaper hotels in subsequent visits to Brighton although I must admit that none have been as nice as Drakes.

meet up as a group of 8 to enjoy a weekend together at a great British venue and we weren't disappointed. Great hotel and fantastic staff . Malcolm in particular looked after our every need and even laying up a private room for us to have breakfast in. Nothing was too much trouble .
Room are small so don't expect bags of space . I did hit my shoulder when passing the bed and wall as there only inches to get by. Rooms are comfortable with settee and a small bathroom .
Great views from the bar but none of us had a sea facing room so cannot say how good the view is from the front bedrooms. We overlooked the chimney pots of the house behind which brings me to my last comment . No lift so a long walk up to our room on the 4th floor. Dont forget anything when going out as it long way back !!!

Room Tip: Tell them if the stairs are too much before you go . Rooms at the front have nice views of the pier...

Drakes was one of the first proper boutique hotels to open in Brighton. They were also one of the first to fit free-standing baths in the guest rooms. I love the consistency of their design. It is followed through out the hotel.

The converted town house is ideally located in the classier part of Brighton - away from the chain pubs and stag/hen nights. Sea facing rooms all have views of the Palace Pier and ferris wheel.

Even the largest rooms have very small bathrooms. And 'wardrobes' are just rails fitted to the walls behind a retractable partition screen.

The bar area is compact, with tables very close together.

Breakfast was delicious. We had it as room service and also in the restaurant in the basement. We tried to book dinner there, but the place had no space available. But the kitchens also serve room service, which was actually a much nicer way to have dinner.

There is no lift, which means a multi staircase hike to the rooms on the higher floors.

Some of the staff we encountered were a bit young and clueless.

They operated a slightly hit and miss parking facility on the forecourt at the front. It was done on a first come - first served basis.

The hotel has recently put it's prices up, which isn't great for an impromptu weekend away.

Room Tip: It seems obvious, but the best rooms are those with sea views, however, these are also the noisiest.

Stylish, modern rooms. Stand-alone bath in the room with a view of the sea was perfect for relaxing in. Nice staff. Breakfast not included, which I think it should be for £150 a night.
