Love going to this theatre as local. But what have they done - no panto at Christmas but an adult show! Come on Theatre Royal what are you doing - give us back our panto.

“Great old style Edwardian Theatre !”
Reviewed 15 September 2012

Nice quaint old theatre with usual side boxes and balcony, pleasant atmosphere and attentive customer ushers/programme sellers. The only problem was there is no centre isle in the middle of the ground floor seating ,making it awkward to get to ones seat if in the middle areas,! nice plays and shows at various times of year.bar for drinks in interval.nice place to spend a few hours providing its not a modern music concert where all the chavs come(mainly overweight women) to sing and shout with the band and stand up blocking ones view for most of the concert..steer clear.of those unless you are female; overweight and between the age of 16 and 40.!

“Great venue”
Reviewed 29 August 2012

Visited the Theatre Royal Brighton the weekend just gone (26 August 2012) with friends to see Russell Brand. Had a fab evening! Staff were really friendly when we picked up our tickets from the box office - an unusual experience in itself! Once seated, my boyfriend and I found we were right in front of a rather noisy fan which a staff member happily turned off - I should've asked for it on again later though as it was really stuffy halfway through! Leg room was ok (some of my group, and myself included (!) have rather long legs and can find it a struggle to sit down sometimes), and whilst we were slightly squashed the evening made up for it in entertainment and cost - a very cheap evening! I'll be looking at future performances here - a really nice venue.

“Great historical venue, appalling respect to paying customers”
Reviewed 28 August 2012

I bought 4 tickets for the summer showing of the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy radio show and found myself leaving the theatre half way through the performance as all of us were sweltering in the heat and could not stomach the conditions any longer. We met up with the assistant manager in the foyer as we left to report the fact that the upper circle area was very unpleasant to be in and the conditions forced us to leave. She was very helpful and told us that a refund was easily obtainable from the manager if we dropped him a line. Having forked out nearly £100 for the seats in total, I felt this was fair so I wrote detailing all the issues and problems to him.

Well that's where the pleasantries stopped and I was told in response that despite heavy storms making what air conditioning they had useless during the previous week, that they had reported the problems to the 'show organisers' and therefore exceed no blame on behalf of the theatre towards us having to leave. They accepted lack of training on behalf of the theatre staff as we were told when we first mentioned the problem that by putting the fans on that were positioned on the walls would help. It turns out these were never turned on as a request of the 'show organsiers'. They also told us that the assistant manager was badly trained in her response to us. They could not care less if we had a pleasant experience or not as long as they took our money.

Beware, nice theatre though it is. They want you money. If you experience any knd of discomfort don't try and ask for any kind of acknowledgement. . Don't try and look for any kind of human response rom a theatre that gives no respect to the people that keep it alive by supporting them.

This is the worst theatre I have had the displeasure to visit.

“The Boys/Girls in the band A show of two halfs”
Reviewed 25 August 2012

The Boys in the Band /Girls in the band is a great 2 part play/show. First half is the 1969 ground breaking play by Matt Crawley The second half is a riot of a show in the burlesque style featuring the same cast as the play. These highly lalented actors are all famous in thier own right as female impersonators .Both parts directed by CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS ,staring DAVE LYNNE and introducing LADY LA RUE AKA Stephen Bacon
The Venue it's self needs no explaining ,it is a world famous example of an eligent early victorian theatre beloved by local audiances and visitors alike.
A great night out ,but not for the children
