Spent a lovely weekend enjoying The Retreat and surrounding area. Gabriella and Liam were very helpful and made us feel very welcome. Really interesting to talk to as well.
We stayed two nights at this bright, contemporary studio, hidden away in a quiet valley about 3km from the centre of Shaftesbury. The location is great, with miles of footpaths and quiet roads winding through the hilly countryside. The friendly owners live in the main part of the house. We liked the 'eco' ethos of the studio, which uses rainwater and little electricity but was still nice and warm!
The studio is immaculate and very well designed. Spent three wonderful days, couple of idyllic walks. The food basket was a welcome treat for breakfast. Would go back in a heart beat given the opportunity.
We stayed 4 nights at this studio as a base for exploring the nearby historical sites (Stonehenge, Salisbury,Bath,Avebury, etc). We found the studio using our gps and the clear instructions supplied by the owners (as Australians we tried putting in an address but learnt that using the postcode was the way to go). It is situated in a quiet, quaint area about 5 minutes outside Shaftesbury. The hosts are congenial and we felt our privacy was respected. The local village has a supermarket and in the opposite direction another small village, Ludwell, has a butcher/deli and post office/convenience store.
The studio does not have laundry facilities but that is not a problem for a short stay. The studio is airy, light and comfortable however the bathroom is cupboard sized and if you were a tall/large person you might find it confining.
I would recommend this rental for a short break in an attractive, relaxing environment.
