Authentic Malaysian dishes that cannot be found elsewhere in Bournemouth. A simple menu delivered to a high standard and felt like good value. Would welcome a few more specials in the future to add a bit more variety when we go back.

Many thanks for the feedback. We always strive to make our customers happy. On our Facebook page, we often upload specials of the week as well as traditional Malaysian kuehs ( cakes ) . Do let us know what you miss most and we might just add it to one of our specials.

Really good food. Excellent selection of authentic Malaysian dishes. The staff were very friendly and helpful with advice about making choices from the menu. We will certainly come again and recommend to our friends.

We ate at sambal tumis as a couple one evening last week.
The atmosphere was Nice, it was quite busy but we only booked half an hour in advance and got a table no issues.
The staff were very friendly, and we spoke to what must have been 3 generations ( of the same family) at different points of the night who were all very helpful and talked to us about the food and about Malaysia.
The food was good, particularly the beef rendang.
Understandably they don't serve alcohol, although I'm not sure if you can BYOB.
The price was reasonable but not cheap. Overall we had a lovely evening and would come back. And I particularly recommend engaging the waiting staff in conversation as they are all lovely.

What a fabulous find!
The food was delicious, fresh, full of flavour and character and beautifully presented.

Delicious spices and fresh herbs, unusual menu of drinks ( try the rose and lime it’s delicious!)

The owner and staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their food, the chef altered my meal to take into account my allergies.

Such a lovely meal, we will definitely go again!

We popped in for lunch around 1 pm and there were just the 4 of us. Drink menu limited. I have never been to an Asian restaurant where they don’t serve Chinese or green tea. As for the food it’s really pricey. They seem to push their house special Nasi Lemak which we ordered. For over £7 we got a small amount of coconut rice with 4 peanuts, half a boiled egg and some anchovies in sambal sauce. The salad achak again came in a small container. It’s unbelievable. Then for dessert we tried custard. It came out in a small custard dish with no saucer or teaspoon! Food came out in haphazard manner so main dish before starters. Food not very hot in temperature probably because the chef is trying to cook one dish at a time. The flavour if generally good so unless they improve on vehement service it’s difficult to see that they can compete in that vicinity where there are so many food eateries.

Dear aarating, we are sorry you feel that way. We will always ensure that everyone of our customers are happy and satisfied here at Sambal Tumis. To begin with, we need to know if you had spoken to any of our floor staff over your dissatisfaction? As a new business we would rectify issues of your manner instantly and we would never want to leave our customers unhappy. We thank you for your comments and we will rectify the situation instantly. In regards to Sambal Tumis not offering Chinese/ Green tea.... yes we are a Asian restaurant, but we are not a Chinese/Japanese restaurant. We are a Malay restaurant offering different types of tea. Have you tried our Malaysian Teh tarik? Kopi Muar? Teh O, Teh O Boh, Teh ais limau?
