Warmly received by Louise who could not have been more helpful, given choice of room which was very large and very comfortable bearing in mind singles usuall get broom cupboard. Superb traditional style hotel with original period decor, super breakfast and was helped in finding restaurants and bars etc of mychoice to suit my taste. Location near to sea and town meant didi not need to get in my car once arrived. Thanks to all for pleasant and friendly stay.

A lovely old style hotel, with bright high rooms and masses of space everywhere (except in the bathroom, but it was ok). Breakfast was excellent being a true ''full english'', my weekend treat. But the star attraction has to be Louise, very helpful and properly attentive, supported by serving staff who were caring and efficient even with a full house. The hotel started out as a ''private residence'' built when money was plentiful, and it is nice to see that Louise is doing a good job of maintaining the quiet and elegance. Very well placed within walking distance of the town centre, the beach and the Riviera Centre, it has to be worth staying as a treat. Young or older, group or couple, Louise and her team cope well with everybody.

Room Tip: No pool or fitness centre but does have a snooker table and plenty of car parking.

I stayed at the Allerdale while attending a conference in Torquay. The proximity of the Riviera center (conference venue) has to be its number one attraction. Also, for business users, free wifi throughout the hotel is a bonus that you perhaps wouldn't expect in what is otherwise quite a traditional seaside hotel. The building is delightful as are the gardens. My room was large, light and comfortable although bathroom was a bit poky. Best of all were the staff especially the lovely Louise!! She was friendly, tactful with awkward guests, incredibly helpful when it came to booking restaurants and taxis (very reasonable in Torquay by the way), nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was more than adequate and quite a 'blast from the past' to be served tea/coffee and cooked options by friendly staff. Fresh fruit would be a welcome extra, in fact one morning not even tinned grapefruit was available (maybe I got up too late?). I have to echo a previous reviewer about the mustiness of the bar area which was a bit off putting but nobody forced me in there so it's a minor point that needs addressing. I'd certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: It wasn't the room I had but a colleague had one overlooking the garden with a bright pink sofa...

A very friendly welcome from this family run hotel. We were well located for the conference centre and the town, and the hotel has a lovely garden which made it very peaceful too. Our room was large and comfortable with a good shower. It's always nice to have armchairs to sit in as well as the bed to lounge on!
Although the price was very reasonable I thought the breakfast was average. It was a standard English cooked breakfast and looked just that. We only ate cereal and toast but the cereal was in plastic containers and a bit stale. i would have liked some fresh fruit , but the yogurt was a nice touch.

While I do not disagree with the fabulous comments already posted about both the service and location of the Allerdale hotel, I must protest a little. I love the character of the hotel, the dated features have been well preserved and cared for, the garden is in fact very beautiful, the location is great with only a short walk to all required amenities. My protest however comes from something somewhat minor but off putting all the same, this is the dreaded musty smell of age and damp. That awful feeling you have when you walk into a room (or get into an old car) and all you smell is age, that vomit prevoking smell of damp.

Again let me reiterate we have had a pleasant stay at the Allerdale and even the lack of a shower in our room hasn't thwarted a lovely weekend but despite the pleasant features listed above, I fear my opinion is somewhat deteriorated from the smell of damp in the reception room, our room and in particular the bar.
