Picked this after reading Tripadvisor reviews, which hewer spot on. Very friendly staff and an excellent menu of freshly cooked well presented food. We enjoyed the locally distilled gins as an aperitif - well it is Plymouth after all! The bill we thought very reasonable - we would have paid a lot more in the Home Counties. If we are ever in Plymouth again, we would certainly eat here as our first choice.

Did we fancy a Groupon deal? This was the text that came from our tall friend and his wife. They had been to The Chancel once before and thought it would be "right up our street"; and they weren't wrong!
We arrived early and from the first impression I thought we were in for a treat..a local gin and tonic from their specialist gin menu got the evening off to a great start.
The husband and wife chef team had designed a superb menu, and our group of five gave it a thorough testing at each level - from goat's cheese bruschetta and local squid to belly pork, swordfish steaks and dense pasta with mushrooms.
It would have been rude not to sample desserts, and bloody hell they were gorgeous!
We will definitely be returning to this establishment for dinner, and I completely recommend the venue, the staff and the menu. 10/10

We were hugely grateful that they could fit us in at short notice on a busy evening. The food was good and thoughtfully selected and portion sizes were overly generous. In particular the seafood platter was great and almost enough for two! The gin menu was also excellent.
