Owner description: Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available on the sustrans websiteIce cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge and Sharpitor car park.

Sheepstor is a must climb to see the amazing views of Dartmoor and abouts. The view of the reservoir from there is amazing. After the climb up the Tor and back down we chose to drive around the reservoir, rather than walk the 5 odd miles! Glad we did as the only way to walk around the reservoir was on the road, shared with cars etc. Can't get close to the water! However, it was a lovely drive around, very picturesque.

Here is one of the most besutiful places that i have ever been.
You can go around the lake by car. The scenery is amazing. Lots of horses and sheeps eating grass.
Downside is it does not have restaurants or coffee shops nearby.

At the far end of the dam is a car park, where bread crumbs are often spread on a rock and lots of tit, squirrels and even the occasional shy Jay can be see

We walk here a lot and enjoy walking the road which is a circular walk and reasonably flat. It is good also to drive partly around the reservoir and have a walk around the arboretum, this is boarded walkway and can be a little slippery but worth a mooch around. Usually quite a few walkers and doggy walkers and cyclists but a great place to go to
