We went on the last night of our holiday, poor choice as we'd overlooked much better restaurants The Loft and the Seafood Cafe in order to try something new. My rum and crab soup was basically a very watery tomato soup with tiny bits of barely discernible crab - and to be honest it was horrible. We ordered the fish sharing platter for our main because we love cajun blackened fish and squid (which was advertised). When the tiny 'platter' arrived full of breaded rubbish we all agreed it looked like something from Bird's Eye that we could have bought at Iceland. The 'blackened fish' (we expected a piece of cajun blackened fish, on the bone, like we have all enjoyed many times before at better restaurants) was a breaded white fish fillet with a bit of spice added. The 'tempura squid' was substituted with a battered white fish fillet, and our server hadn't even bothered to mention squid was off. The rest of the 'platter' consisted of a few skinny cold fries, some slaw, tasteless croquettes and corn cob bits (the only part I actually ate) and a handful of breaded whitebait. We had to pay extra for a dip for the whitebait. Our bill - after compaining - was reduced to £125 for 4 and we all came out still hungry and wishing we hadn't bothered. Horrible food and a massive disappointment on our last night. Please don't waste your money. There are far better restaurants in St Ives - any one of them in fact.

After arriving AFTER ‘happy’ hour our cocktails came after a long awaited 30 minutes and tasted awful. Having been to many cocktail bars around the country this must of been the worse cocktail I have ever tasted and I could have made a better one myself. I will not be returning.

After wanting a seafood free meal, we came here to have something meaty. Delicious ribeye, cooked to perfection and ribs were really good too. Was a tough choice to choose a cocktail from the wide range, run specials were lovely.

Service was friendly & nothing too much trouble, would happily return again.

The dressed crab wasn't a dressed crab as it had just dry crab meat of top of its shell. Worst was that it wasn't fresh, despite of the name of the restaurant, crab wasn't its speciality for sure. In fact, the crab was warmed in the microwaves before served with a pot of mayonnaise next to it. The toast wasn't toasted but sliced bread cut in half.
The sweet potato chips were good as the french fries. However, the steak of my partner was cut in half to be verified if it was medium rare, the cut part was, but the rest wasn't a all.
The staff was sympathetic but kept disappearing for long periodes of time to hang out with the cooks in the kitchen. Not very attentive, hey, and the place was very cold.

The restaurant/bar is situated in front of the port, a great location and a potential great place, and from reading the reviews it sounded like it would be an amazing experience.
But is wasn't.
From reading the bad reviews it is my understanding that this restaurant doesn't have control of quality throughout the year. Maybe the restaurant part should be closed when it can't deliver what is proposed in the menu or may be Gordon Ramsey should come visit and give everyone a slap for being sacrilege on the crabs.

We visited today after a visit to St Ives and fancying a change to where we usually eat.

We walked in and the place was very quiet, there was a man and a woman behind the bar...even though it was quiet they made no attempt to makes us feel welcome at all, we wanted a table by the window and asked if we could move a couple of tables, they let us but stood and watched us struggle as we dragged the tables across. We weren’t sure if it was waiter service but no-one asked us if we wanted a drink or if we wanted to eat. We got our drinks from the bar and had to ask for menus...we had checked the menu online last night and there was a lunch menu but be aware there’s no lunch menu once you get there and when we queried the woman just said “oh, it’s our old menu” so maybe they need to update their website as the prices are different also on somethings. We did get asked if our food was ok once it was served but apart from that had no other interaction with the staff who were deep in their own conversation. Don’t get me wrong you don’t want anyone in your face the whole time in a restaurant but to be made to feel welcome would have been nice and made us feel that would have gone back.

The food was very good however especially the Crab Mac Cheese and Crab Tacos and I really didn’t want to give a bad review but I’m afraid the service really let this place down for us today, maybe it was because it was quiet or the place was about to stop serving food until the evening but even a hello would have made us feel more welcome.
