“Polperro charm!”
Reviewed 12 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

The only downside was that the property had a really bad smell (of drains), which kept coming back. The only thing that seemed to clear it was running the dishwasher. Also, the first floor bathroom steamed up very badly when the shower was in use (the extractor fan didn't appear to work although it was running), which tended to make the bedroom next door feel damp.
The lay-out of the property was fine. It has a really comfortable lounge and well fitted kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were clean and thoughtfully furnished. We thoroughly enjoyed the roof terrace.
The property is well situated for enjoying Polperro, which is a wonderfully preserved, old-fashioned, fishing port that has managed to retain all of it's charm, without being spoiled by over commercialism.
The Blue Peter pub across the harbour serves super meals, working from the tiniest kitchen and was always busy (top tip: arrive early if you want a table).

“Shell House - still ticks all boxes”

As promised, a return to visit to Polperro following the successful weekend in November 2014 - this time a week-long stay in February.

Shell House remains as it was - impressive on the outside, warm and comfortable inside. Everything worked without a hitch, be it heating, wifi, showers or dishwasher and the latter earned its keep (along with the massive kitchen table) after some epic breakfasts.

Advertised as sleeping eight, there are enough cups and plates etc. to service a passing battalion and no shortage of pans and sharp knives etc - not always a given in rentals. This is by no means the cheapest property available, but prime site and facilities (including dedicated parking space) makes it worth the cost.

Turbulent conditions on arrival made for great viewing of rough seas outside harbour mouth and watching a fishing boat cope with the swell as it returned. With a little more time on our hands, we also drove across to Padstow and Boscastle for a wander - the small display of the 2004 floods in the National Trust building at the latter worth checking out.

Polperro was even quieter in February than it had been November, with Michelles and The Kitchen not open until after we left for the half-term holidays. The Crumplehorn remains consistently good for food, along with the Tintagel ales - a nice change from the Tribute / Doom Bar generally on offer in the South West.

Made it up to the hill to the Legion this time (everyone welcome) for a decent pint of Guinness and live football on the TV, while the pumpkin loaf from the bakers is a real find.

PS: It did seem at times as if we were the only non dog owners in the postcode, which wasn't ideal - especially for the owner of two who hadn't grasped the twin concepts of poop scooping or dog washing.....for our next visit we may borrow a beast to fit in better.

“What Great Xmas!!”
Reviewed 6 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

6 of us had to get away for a change. I booked Shell Hse after getting ok from my friends. This house is such a lovely property. So many changes on each floor. The kitchen is large enough for a grand feast. All fully equipped. Wifi is sorted on the next level, up a few steps and a nice double bedroom with bathroom. Up into the lounge which is so comfortable to chill out in. Then up to the top floor. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are perfect! Out onto the rear balcony and up to the roof patio (would have used it, but winter winds stopped us). This house is so good for a large family or group of friends!! So close to the pubs, shops and comes with parking, 1 car, 2 mins walk. Go and stay there. Enjoyed so much!!!

“Excellent find”
Reviewed 25 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed here as a family in mid June, not only was the weather fantastic but the cottage was as well, had booked with a online holiday firm in Cornwall and have no complaints at all, the cottage is huge built on 3 floors nearly making 4 and with the roof top terrace this was the icing on the cake. The whole cottage has been very well decorated with a chiffon while, it was once 2 fisherman's cottages and has been redesigned to make 1 stunning building by the present owners, there is nothing the present owners have failed to provide here, they even leave 2 bottles of wine for new guests when they arrive, Polperro is a stunning fishing village and with finding the Shell Cottage its just perfect.
