“This is the cream of Cornwall”
Reviewed 29 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Ancarva is a beautifully presented gem of a cosy cottage, in a wonderful part of the country. Jacqui and Simon have restored it with great taste and provide everything you could possibly need, as well as some things which you don't - but it's nice to be pampered now and then! We loved the secret garden, and the friendly local pub and handy post office/shop.The location is ideal for exploring a lovely area and to come home to such comfort at the end of the day is the icing on the cake. Perfection. If only all holiday rentals were like this!

“Ancarva is the perfect Cornish retreat”

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Simon and Jacqueline for graciously hosting us at Ancarva this June. Perranwell is a delightful part of Cornwall, the cottage could not have been more charming and clearly Simon and Jacqueline have gone to great lengths to ensure that Ancarva is the perfect Cornish retreat. Since my friend and I opted to explore Cornwall by rail, we were delighted that Perranwell is served by a reliable rail service and is linked to The Saint Ives Bay Line, which affords the most breathtakingly beautiful coastal views and more than lives up to its reputation for being the most scenic in Britain. It was an utter joy to explore the surrounding Cornish towns and beaches by train and our rail journeys to the glorious St Ives were truly heavenly. We invariably started each day at Ancarva enjoying tea, birdsong and the beautiful sound of the stream in their tranquil and much-loved cottage garden. And, it was a joy to return in the evening and prepare supper in their charming cottage kitchen, after spending the day at the beautiful beach at Carbis Bay or sailing in Falmouth. Therefore, I cannot recommend Ancarva highly enough. Simon and Jacqueline are genuinely lovely people and exceptional hosts and they made us feel like honoured guests during our stay at their idyllic Cornish cottage. Simon graciously collected us from the railway station upon our arrival and Jacqueline very kindly dropped us off at the end of our stay. We are deeply grateful to them for ensuring that we had the most wonderful experience of Cornwall this summer. Highly recommended!

Thank you for taking the precious time to submit such a detailed review. In particular thank you for highlighting what an advantage having the rail branch line in the village is. You have proved this really does offer a cheap and convenient way to explore without the hassle of traffic and parking fee's. We look forward to your return to Ancarva in the future.

““Five Star cottage, wonderful hosts, delightful area””

"200 year old cottage, sympathetically restored, luxuriously appointed and well maintained". That sentence describes the bones of Ancarva but just doesn't do justice to the generosity of spirit of the owners in the way they have presented and fitted out their cottage. It isnt just a standard holiday rental, you get the sense that for the owners, Ancarva is a labour of love. It is a small cottage, best suited to a couple, or a couple with one or maybe even 2 children, depending on how much paraphernalia you bring as floor space is limited. Maybe not the best option for a person with mobility issues as the stairs in these old cottages are often a little steep, as is the case in Ancarva.
The furnishings are smart, luxurious and spotlessly clean. Super-comfortable beds with crisp white bed linen promise quality sleep. Big, soft, fluffy towels envelope you post-shower - even if the shower water pressure is a little on the low side. (There is a full size bath also & lots of hot water should you wish for a leisurely soak.)The owners have put considerable thought into ensuring that your every daytime need is catered for also. Oodles of board games, guide books and fiction to get you through a wet day when you have an excuse to light the log burner (lots of logs supplied) and settle in for a few hours. A really well equipped kitchen (great Sabatier knives - a treat for someone who likes to cook.) Overall, lots of thoughtful extras provided to ensure you settle in and feel comfortable straight away, even a sewing kit and a well stocked first aid kit (lest you fall foul of those Sabatiers) and for me, best of all, a roll of sellotape, neatly tucked away in a drawer in the dresser with a notepad and pen. Why? Because we arrived late on the eve of my partners birthday and although I brought the birthday gift and gift wrap, I forgot to bring a card or some tape to wrap the gift with. Thanks guys, you read my (absent) mind!
For summer lazing, a secret garden, private and brimming with plants and flowers, with BBQ and a table and chairs, and a little stream as well!
Best of all though was the warmth of the welcome. Our hosts were there to greet us on arrival, show us around, make sure we had everything we needed and then left us to enjoy our holiday. But not before they had provided fresh, homemade scones with local clotted cream and strawberry jam. A wonderful and most welcome treat! This was our first visit to Cornwall, our trip felt far too short, we can't wait to return and a large part of that pleasure will be in returning to Ancarva for a longer stay next time. Top tip; The Royal Oak Pub/Restaurant serves great food, is run by lovely people and is exactly 110 paces from Ancarva's front door!

“Perfect cottage in a perfect place.”

Just back from our second stay at Ancarva. The cottage is perfectly placed to explore most parts of Cornwall. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Lizard - Kynance Cove is a must.
Great food and drink at the Royal Oak pub across the road.

Jacqui and Simon put a lot of effort into ensuring that the cottage is well presented and clean - what you see on the photographs is what you get and so there is no disappointment when you arrive.

Thank you for a lovely week and we would love to return next year.

“An idyllic Cornish cottage with a heavenly garden and a great base from which to explore Cornwall even by train!”

My friend and I loved our idyllic stay at Ancarva. It's such a beautiful, quaint and cosy cottage, very tastefully and sensitively decorated and equipped with absolutely everything required. Simon and Jacqui are outstanding hosts and made us feel so welcome with incredibly thoughtful touches such as the scones, the beautiful displays of fresh flowers and collecting us from the station. Everything was done to an exceptionally high standard and we really appreciated Simon and Jacqui's efforts to ensure everything was perfect for us. The garden is magical and we loved everything about this heavenly place. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the friendly local pub which had a very convivial atmosphere and lovely owner. The location of the cottage was excellent as we were able to take a short scenic stroll up to Perranwell Station which was served by an efficient and reliable train service. We visited places such as Falmouth, the beautiful beach at Carbis Bay, the charming St Ives and enjoyed a boat ride to Helford Passage. I would highly recommend this place, even if travelling by train as it makes for a relaxing and easy way of getting around. All in all it was an unforgettable break and I can't wait to visit again! A heartfelt thanks to Simon and Jacqui!
