Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: All tours are led by fully qualified Blue and Green Badge Guides. A guided tour of Chester is the best way of seeing the city and there is a tour at 10.30am every day of the year (and again at 2pm from Easter to end October). Tours generally last for approx 1.5 hrs so even if you are only in Chester for a few hours, make the most of your time here and let one of our experienced guides show you all the highlights of this beautiful city. A variety of sightseeing tours (by foot and by coach) and themed walks is also available all year round for both groups and individual visitors and at a time to suit you. Guides need to be booked in advance for these.

I took the tour at 10.30 am just before Easter 2018. The guide was Alan, who was obviously passionate about the city and spoke with a good clear voice. There were six of us on the tour. He used a hand drawn map at every opportunity which was not really necessary.

He told us early on that the tour was 90 minutes but he could make it last longer, which would be fine if it were not for the sometimes repeated information (one fact was told to us on five separate occasions).

Alan also got dates wrong on a few occasions, and was corrected by one of the group. Some of his interpretations of English history were different from what I learned.

He tried to take us into two buildings (one church /one shop) which had events on, and so we were denied the promised experience. Alan later took us into a pub and another shop, but it felt a little awkward waiting while he asked permission. It may have been better to explain the buildings from the outside and suggest that we return individually if we wanted to see the interior.

I have taken guided walks in various places, and this one was more expensive and of lower quality than most.

Liz did a really BRILLIANT ghost tour for us, she was very entertaining and very knowledgeable. She was definitely dressed for the part too which we thought was great! We were quite a large group, 23 of us from a local social group, but we could all hear perfectly well and she made sure that she waited for the slower ones. Many thanks Liz - you did us proud!!

Liz lead our walk which was fun, informative and a really good way to see Chester. I was really impressed with her knowledge and how she involved the whole group. I would recommend this walk as a great way to begin to see the city.

We love doing city walks and this city walk of Chester didn't disappoint. We had a lovely guide called Jane who was very knowledgeable. We covered a lot of ground, and learnt a lot about this beautiful city. Well worth the £7 each fee - lots of opportunities for asking questions and time to take photographs. Jane remembered where each of us (there were 5 in our group) came from, and any references between those places and Chester were woven into the walk as we wandered around. Thoroughly recommend this activity!

You can’t get much for £7 today . But it’s worth spending on the walking tour . You see things and are told things you would never know . When ever we visit somewhere new we tend to do some kind of tour to find things out . Very informative and great knowledge from the guide .
