Recent stay at this hotel Room 4. Beds and pillows very firm. Bathroom door could not be shut from outside, extractor fan did not work so smells pervaded bedroom. Windows could not be opened as sealed with paint. Side window covered by creeper. 1 pane of glass broken. Hole in quilt cover. Large step in and out of shower with no grab rail.
Room 3. Bed and pillow very firm. Bathroom smelt musty, door could only be wedged shut. Bed against wall of room 4 bathroom, so noise of toilet and sink emptying noisy.
On our arriaval we ordered a drink from the bar at about 9.15 we were told the bar would be closed at 22.00. We were shocked at 21.50 to be turned out of the adjacent lounge area, with our drinks, which was also to be locked up. Not very hospitable.
On complaining at reception next morning we were met with indifference. We booked out as we were not prepared to stay a second night. The dispute regarding payment is ongoing as we have been charged for 2 nights.

Room Tip: Do not book room 3 or 4.

This hotel supplied just what we needed-a good base to explore. The beds were comfy and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble.Plenty of parking space.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back courtyard are very quiet.

Stayed in the Courtyard area.
Pros:
The room, bed linen and towels etc were nice and clean.
There were complimentary tea and biscuits.
There was a radiator to warm the room if needed.
The breakfast was vey good.
The room was very small, but suitable for a short stay if you're travelling light.
Within walking distance of Chester Centre (approx 20 mins) and parking on site - with bus stops outside.
Cons:
The shower is very noisy and you can hear the shower next door clearly, a bit irritating at midnight.
Main problem for me was that there was no Wi Fi connection whatsoever in the room, and flaky and slow in the main building, This did cause me a problem on this particular trip and reading other reviews this is clearly a long term problem.

We had booked for 2 nights, but chose to leave after the first night as we were not happy with our rooms. I was in a single room, but there was a distinct smell of mold/mildew from the bathroom. There was no view (brick wall of the house on the opposite side of the alleyway between the 2 properties). The bed (which was very hard) was on the wall adjoining my parents bathroom so I could hear them using the toilet/showering etc. My parents were in a twin room and the door to the bathroom didn't shut and there was no fan or window. The windows in the bedroom were painted shut so they only had a small side window which could be opened into the ivy and the bed sheets on one bed had holes in.

When we arrived we left our bags in our room and then went down to the bar for a drink (about 21:15). We were told that the lady on reception was leaving at 10pm so if we wanted anything we would have to order it before she starts closing up before then. We ordered our drinks and chose to sit in the lounge instead of the bar. At about quarter to 10 we were told that she would be locking up and we would have to leave the lounge as well, even though we were only half way through our drinks. I can understand the need to lock the bar room up, but as the front door is shut and only guests with keys can access the hotel, I don't understand why the lounge also needs to be locked up, this was very disappointing.

The positive was the staff at breakfast were friendly and the breakfast was nice and the location was very convenient for Chester zoo.

We definitely will not be returning to this hotel.

Would highly recommend staying at this hotel, very friendly staff, very helpful, hotel itself is clean, breakfasts were superb, served by a very attentive and pleasant young lady, very hot weather made a walk into Chester an effort , so we took the car the next day , plenty of car parks at £5 all day, Nathan most obliging in directing you to the best car park, and will also sort you out a discount for Chester Zoo entrance, lots of places to eat nearby, but make sure you book for the Chinese restaurant, we walked down there on a Tuesday evening and it was full! There is a choice of eateries along Faulkner Road , a few minutes fwalk from the hotel.....Enjoy !
