This hotel is an absolute joke. We spoke to the hotel twice before we arrived and told that checkin was 13.00. When we arrived was told couldn't check in till 15.00.

The rooms are filthy. Cobwebs in most corners and stains on carpet. But worst of all the pillows are totally stained brown which I find totally disgusting.

We was told that music was goin to go on late which we didn't mind. But to the volume it is played is joke the windows were shaking and the wardrobe doors rattling. I went to see the owner about this and he just laughed and said told you so.

I can only advise everybody not to stay in this filthy hell hole

Found this lovely sunny oasis by chance on a day out to Chester. John the owner made us very welcome...as it was sunny we chose to sit outside and he quickly brought a dark table cloth so the reflection of the sun off the table didn't blind us.... After a bit it went a bit chilly...no problem that we then decided to go inside.
We chose the soup and sandwiches for lunch, a lovely choice, sandwiches fresh and well filled. SOUP WAS TO DIE FOR I chose broccoli and cheese and my friend chose the carrot...both were so delicious and clearly home made...my other friend enjoyed the toastie.. No complaints there...Unfortunately no room for the cake on offer...
On request John showed us around and the environment was clean bright and authentic
Will definetely be returning on our next visit to Chester.. Although we said we would like to stay overnight it is on reflection maybe not a good idea for us on a fri or sat due to the potential for noise from the cocktail bar... But will certainly return for the food drinks and entertainment. Thanks for the attentive and warm welcome John and hope to see you and your lovely team soon x

We booked this hotel for two nights having read the reviews on Trip Advisor. As we were staying on a Monday and Tuesday we were not worried about noise from the bars and chose it mainly for its size (small) and location (central). Communication via Booking.com before our visit was good until the day of our arrival when we were phoned to be told they could only accommodate us for one night, not two. We were very disappointed at this given that we stayed in September and had made our booking back in April. A conversation with Laura at the hotel kind of resolved this and with her help we found a room at a nearby hotel for the second night and she waived the charges for the first night in compensation. Our room, Wordsworth, was spacious and comfortable (could've done with a hairdyer though). We ate in town and then decided to have a nightcap at the hotel. However, the bar more resembled a staff room than a bar with several members of staff chatting to each other and being the only guests in there we felt quite uncomfortable.

Me and a friend stayed here for the night. Absolutely amazing! The hotel is in such a good location, right in the middle of the city. Rooms are a lot bigger than you'd think from the pictures. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms are all named after poets which I thought was very sweet. We stayed in the Wordsworth room and I have to say the bed was so comfortable. The bar downstairs is fantastic and kudos to Sam & Harry who served us & dealt with our weirdness. Good range of spirits and really nice wine & cocktails. We ended up having a couple of drinks with the owner John who was so lovely. John you best read those books I recommended! We'll definitely be back and I want to check out the Byron room!

had an overnight stay here. Our room was clean and spacious, the staff were welcoming and informative, the bed was squeaky and a bit soft, the breakfast was basic and freshly cooked. It is in a part of town where the nightlife does not stop so never felt alone. The price was very reasonable
