Stayed in section of hotel nearest to Chester and Cheshire West council offices where building work was being carried out quite silently during the day but involving pneumatic drills cutting through concrete by night
Complaints to hotel diverted blame to council who in turn absolved themselves from blame
Typical corporate organisational lack of responsibility

Stayed: October 2017, travelled solo

Dear Stephen

Thank you for your review. The Chester West Council were undergoing work in there offices this was only for one evening and we were assured that noise would be limited and not effect the guests.
Please feel free to contact me at the hotel on 01244347000 i would love to make this right.

Warm Regards

Philip

We went to the hotel for a bit of a reconnoiter to see about booking in for a stay next year. Reception staff were more than helpful, they showed us a room that was unoccupied and explained room rates. Reception staff were professional, well mannered and courteous sealing our decision to make a booking. We enjoyed a lovely meal on the 5th floor, the restaurant was superb, the ambience and decor was second to none, the views although at night time in December were lovely. The food we had was superb, presentation and quality was excellent. All the waiting on staff were superb with regard to manners and professionalism, we were mainly dealt with by Louis whom we really liked, but that should that should not detract from the other waiting on staff who were a credit to the hotel. The experience we had at the ABode sank our current hotel into oblivion, we can describe the ABode as ' what a place' . We are really looking forward to staying next year.

Stayed here for a quick get together. The striking thing about this hotel is the floor to ceiling windows with great views. Rooms are fresh and new with a fairly contemporary feel only let down by the ubiquitous shower over bath scenario which looked a little dated. Parking is charged as an extra which could be built into the price. A 2 minute walk and you are in town which is great. Would stay again.

My husband and I booked into the Abode for a long weekend in Chester to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. We had seen the exorbitant price of the parking, but as it was labelled "secure", we decided it was worth it. We also noted the hotel was advertised as "overlooking the racecourse".

On arrival, we were given access to the car park via intercom, and drove around it 3 times looking for a space. As it was Sunday, there were many empty council spaces, along with signage to say we couldn't use those spaces (and wouldn't anyway as we were staying two nights). There are approx 20 spaces for the hotel, all of which were taken, so we unloaded and my hubby drove to the carpark over the road - much cheaper and well attended so although not "secure", we felt happy leaving the car there.

The room was fine, with a very large bed and was what we had booked. The website made it look as if we were getting something better than other hotels, but that is obviously clever marketing.

We had a look around the hotel, and were curious to find that all of the public areas had a view of the dual carriageway and the open space where the car park is. When I enquired, I was informed that "obviously we just have a quarter of the building" (that quarter includes just a few rooms from which you can see some of the racecourse).

There is a small gym on site for the use of guests. We walked past it between our room and the lifts, but never saw the door unlocked.

We chose to take advantage of a deal in the restaurant - steak dinner for two with a bottle of Malbec for £20. The wine was very nice, unfortunately the steak in the deal bears no resemblance to that served on the normal menu, and when it finally arrived, it was cold. I sent mine back, and had the pleasure of watching my hubby eat his, and then he got to watch me eat mine. Hardly ideal.

There were a number of other issues, and when we checked out we asked to see the detail of the bill. Sure enough, we had been overcharged in the restaurant. Sorting this out took some time, and we had also booked tickets through the hotel for the zoo. These were advertised as £17.50 on the website, but the fee came to £41! I was checking out for over half an hour, with another guest having similar problems with the other receptionist, creating quite a queue behind us.

Some of the staff were superb, one of the girls on reception was particularly friendly and helpful, but I can't say the same for an assistant manager we spoke with, or some of the restaurant staff. Luckily we booked a meal at Chez Jules to celebrate our anniversary at the recommendation of the receptionist, so the weekend was not ruined.

We have enjoyed staying here before but last night's stay was enforced as the NCP carpark in Pepper Street had locked our car in at 11.30pm after we had been out for a meal with friends in Chester. As we had intended to drive home we had no choice but to find a hotel. The Abode not only found us a room but were kindness itself giving us not only complimentary toothbrushes but also a drink each as we were still in a state of shock.Kindness itself.Yes our room was expensive but had a bed that felt like, what I imagine, sleeping on a cloud feels like,a wonderful power shower and lovely breakfast this morning turned what felt like a disaster into a bit of a treat.Thank you for the brilliant service.
