Gite du Portail is a beautiful property to look at! It is extremely well equipped inside and out with everything you could possibly need for a 2 week holiday in France. Many an evening was spent sat at our table outside the gite, having barbecued, drinking the amazingly inexpensive French wine and admiring the beautiful countryside and wildlife that we were surrounded by. We all slept extremely well in this gite as the area is so peaceful. There is plenty to keep you busy at Le Manoir if you choose to spend a day resting. The heated outdoor pool offers something cooling on days when it is very hot. La Salle du Jour is very well equipped with a pool table, a table tennis table and table football along with Dvds and board games (and I mustn't forget the Wifi that our teenage children connected to regularly!). Our family enjoyed a good few games of Boule on the Boule pitch that is sited in the lovely garden area. There is a summer kitchen area where you are able to enjoy the company of the other guests if you wish and each Monday evening during our stay Nick and Chania cooked an amazing Paella and did a lovely Bbq ; it gave us the opportunity to meet other families staying at Le Manoir. There is plenty to do in the area. We enjoyed canoeing on the river in St Jean D'Angely, taking a donkey for a walk for half a day and La Rochelle is definitely worth a visit. You cannot go to France without visiting some of the beautiful local markets. The locals love to chat and very much appreciate you trying to speak their language. I would definitely recommend a holiday here. Nick and Chania go out of their way to may your holiday as enjoyable as possible and are always willing and there to help if needed. Thank you Nick and Chania for a lovely lovely holiday! A bientot!
We stayed here for 8 nights and found it to be perfect for our needs. There are 4 gites but we liked this on the best being a beautiful old picture box house. Everything you need is in the house we even got a strainer as we live in Sri Lanka we brought our own tea! We went off season as this is when we can take our own holidays and we are not bothered about hot sun as we get plenty of that at home. we loved the crisp sunny days that enabled us to walk around the area and visit loads of other places. A car is needed of course but we hired one and found the place very easily.Nick and Chania are exceptional hosts. They are very welcoming and flexible and give loads of information on the area and are available if you need them without being obtrusive in any way. In the season it will be different as the gives will all be full and it would be a way to meet people but still have your own space. Thank you very much to both of you
