We went to Kostas bases on tripadvisor' Frenchies comments.... As we are French ourself I was a Little bit sceptic....on their comments... Lol.
Have to recognize this time that their comments were below reality.... Since we travel around the Island (5 years now) we never eat like this. Just simple and so excellent. We get chance to meet local people like Irina and his soon Nikos also. Many other People sorry but vorgot their names but not their hospitality.... Plus other clients from Hania... All mixed together: food way of. Life and hospitality was so simple and such a magic time that counts in your life... SO SIMPLY.. NO MOORE is needed.
KOSTAS thank you for this unforgettable lunch and moment.
Thank you for your present and see you for sure next year as promised.
Kind regards Pascal and Marie-Claude

We stumbled upon this little taverna on the basis of the TripAdvisor review on the way home from Dourakis Winery. It is a small village taverna on a tiny square next to the village church, shaded by big trees and draped with bougainvillea.
The food was delicious - there is no menu, just 'what's on' today. Everything is 'more' - feta more creamy, tomatoes more tasty, chicken souvlaki more tender - than anywhere else we have been in a 2 week trip. Highly recommended

Earlier in the day, Kostas the co-owner invited the 4 of us to visit him and his wife Voula at their restaurant in Meza for what he said would be an authentic Cretan meal.
We were a bit skeptical of the impromptu sales pitch at first but decided to give it a shot after inquiring about the restaurant with a third party. Even though we were staying very close by, getting to Maza through the county roads in pitch dark wasn't obvious and for a moment we thought we wouldn't find the darn place.
But finding it we did as it was pretty much the only thing alive that night, right by the old church in Maza, framed by magnificent bougainvillea flowers.
And once we got there...boy were we in for a treat!
Kostas recognized us and, even though the terrace was packed on a Tuesday evening, table and chairs appeared out of nowhere to accommodate us.
He proposed all items and, carried by his passion for Cretan cuisine, we just went with it. We genuinely enjoyed appetizers and main dish equally. Still fresh in mind are the Cretan salad, meatballs, pork chops, stewed beans and a very fair house wine (white). Of course a little bit of Raki complements of the house to go with dessert helped finish a memorable evening under the Cretan stars where we were treated like family by very welcoming folks. We would highly recommend it for those looking for an authentic, if a bit rustic, Cretan meal (and good value for money if I may say so).

We really enjoyed eating here. When we first arrived we were greeted right away. We felt welcomed every time we went to this restaurant. At this restaurant you'll find traditional greek food for a really great price. Thanks again to the man that served us! He was polite, kind, and made our expirence enjoyable. We hope to come again next year!
