We recently stayed here for 4 nights with our three kids (4, 6 & 8). The cabin was clean and spacious and it was really nice to have a kitchen. There are few frills in the room, so if you are looking for more than basic, this is not likely for you. Showers were good with nice pressure and the outdoor space around the cabin was lovely. The kids had fun at the playground and the walks around the grounds were good as well. There are some restaurants and a small grocery store in easy walking distance and Santa Elena could be walked as well but would be a bit longer (20-30 mins) and all up hill on the way back. There is a great bakery about a 3 minute walk away.

Room tip: Some cabins definitely have more sun than others.

¡Hola hola!

Thanks for your review!

We are glad you found the cabin to be clean and that you enjoyed the outdoor space! There are so many wonderful things to see in Monteverde that we try to make sure you spend as much time as possible outside!

As you mention, some of our cabins might be seen as basic by some people but, we also have other categories that have services that some of you might be looking for, so make sure to choose the cabin that will best suit your needs!

Thanks again for taking your time to share about your experience at Los Pinos and we hope to have you back in the future!

Kind regards,

Private cabin tucked away in the hills of Monteverde. Very friendly staff can arrange excursions for you. Easy walk to restaurants in the town. Beautiful forests all around you. Not much more you can ask for.

Hola!

Thanks for your short yet kind review!

As you say, there is indeed not much more to ask for when staying at Los Pinos!

Regarding restaurants, sometimes people ask us what our favorites are, but there are so many different types around that it is hard to choose! So keep in mind that we have a lot to choose from and very good ones indeed. Some general categories of restaurants around are: Costa Rican, Italian, Argentine, Mediterranean, Japanese, Mexican, Chinese, farm to table and fast food as well.

Some great ones within a very short walk: Don Luis, Celajes, and Sofias!
We are sure everyone in the family will find something they will like as some restaurants even have a lot of options in their menu as well!

Looking forward to your next visit!

Kind regards,

The cabina that we four stayed in was nice - had the feel of an environmental architect's work from the '90's. Comfortable and breezy with some very large scorpions (these are super-common in all buildings in the region). The main drawback was the large VERY bright streetlights around the cabins. A significant improvement would be more discreet road and path lighting rather than the streetlight shining in the front windows all night long.

Hey!

Thanks a lot for reviewing Los Pinos!

We appreciate your recommendations and will take them into consideration to keep on constantly improving little by little.
The lights outside are mostly for safety, and all bedrooms should have thick blinds to prevent light coming in but we will look into the lamps close to your cabin and see if we can relocate them.

Regarding scorpions, as you note, they are quite common throughout the country for the dry season but thankfully non are harmful, like in other countries, just rather unpleasant to most eyes.

We would like to thank you once again for your opinion and we wish you all the best!

Kind regards,

We were looking for a family-run, eco-friendly place to stay while visiting the Monteverde region and were very happy that we chose Los Pinos. The cabins are well-equipped and private, which allowed us to enjoy all the region had to offer. We saw a lot of wildlife while enjoying the hammock on our porch, including coatis and agoutis. The location was excellent. The staff also went out of their way to be helpful, providing recommendations on dining and excursions.

Hola hola!

Thanks for your very accurate description of Los Pinos! We indeed match your interests quite well and we appreciate that you took your time to discover us and make sure that we were what you wanted to experience. Sometimes, the many good reviews on TripAdvisor, might indicate that a place is good for everyone but this is not always the case so it is important to always do your homework and look deeper into these places to make sure that they are really a good match for your interests.

Los Pinos is perfect for people like you, who are looking for a family run, eco-friendly, well located, well equipped, and private place to stay.

Being a small family owned and operated project ensures that Los Pinos is meticulously cared and looked for and adds a lot of charm and character to it as well.

Birders also choose us more and more often. Costa Rica has over 900 species of birds and in Monteverde you can find just over 400 of them, making us a birder's paradise! In a single afternoon, one can find close to 30 species around our property!

We are very grateful for your kind words and can't wait to have you back at our small sustainable lodge.

Warm regards,

We visited Costa Rica in March 2018, and spent three nights at the Los Pinos resort while we toured the Monteverde area. This hotel was recommended to us by our travel agent, Pacific Trade Winds.

The room we selected, a "superior" room, was up a short hill and in the woods. Beautiful views, very clean and came with a small kitchenette. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This is an "Eco" hotel, with many energy saving and ecologically sound features. There was no breakfast included, but there are a number of restaurants nearby. We were staying without a car, so the nearby services were helpful.

We would stay here again. It was great!

Room tip: The superior rooms have the best views

Hola amigos,

So glad to hear that you enjoyed Los Pinos so much to be interested in staying here again!

You chose well, our Superior Cabins are hard to beat and no others in town have fireplaces! Our location is also superb, at only 4 km from the entrance to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

And since you mention Cloud Forest in your title, for those reading this and planning on coming in the future, do you know what a Cloud Forest is?! Well, it is a very special type of forest that can be formed under very specific weather conditions which are normally only achieved at certain latitudes and elevations. In our case, we are part of a mountain range where the Continental Divide runs through, which pretty much separates the Caribbean slope from the pacific slope. Weather influence from the Caribbean then brings over a lot of moisture that hits our mountain range and condensates when hitting dryer currents coming from the pacific and form an almost permanent year-round cloud coverage, giving name to this very magical and special forest. Since this type of forest is dependent on very specific weather conditions, only 1% of the world has it and it is highly threatened by climate change.

We are doing our best to reduce our footprint and take care of this special place, so that generations to come will be able to enjoy it. Thanks for helping us achieve this!

Warm regards,
