Larry the manager's attitude and his treatment of guests is unprofessional and it is also unacceptable. The Bill Schroeder party of two from Wisconsin stayed at April Point from September 9th to September 13th. Larry refused to have box lunches made for them because Bill and Bruce were not fishing with April Point guides. However, the wonderful staff made them box lunches anyway. Larry also would not allow the guide to pick up or drop off his guests at the April Point dock even though the guests were staying at April Point. What a stupid draconian policy. Larry made it perfectly clear to the guests that they were not welcome to stay at April Point if they did not fish with April Point guides. Bill and Bruce complained to Larry about these policies and Larry just ignored them for the rest of their trip. Since new ownership has taken over a couple of years ago, April Point now has the reputation of having the worst guides and boats in Campbell River so why would anyone use their services? These dumb policies about using their guides and boats and contract guides not being able to pick up and drop off guests or clean fish there has to be costing April Point a ton of lost business and bad PR and will continue to do so.

This hotel sits in a pretty bay on Quadra Island just a short $50 car ferry from its sister hotel in very ordinary and rather dreary looking Campbell River. Our accommodation was on the lower of a two storey wooden block of rooms overlooking the hotel pontoons . You can lie in bed watching for seals ,dolphins and whales. Our friends spotted a seal chasing and catching an enormous salmon. You can hire canoes, go fishing or rent an electric bike. There's also a spa which we didn't use. Theres an outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi over at their hotel in Campbell River which is served by a free water taxi. There are some good walks but you need a car to reach them. We saw eagles, deer and basking seals but only warning signs about the cougars ! The hotel was hopeless about providing any really useful information on the island, it's history, wildlife , culture or amenities . The food was fine but we chose to eat dinner elsewhere ..the pub at Harriet Bay which had a great atmosphere. There's also a posher and more attractive hotel on the water's edge in a protected area about 15 minutes drive away. Rooms aren't made up and water bottles not replaced. Having said that the rooms were comfortable, warm and clean with balconies. The staff were nice enough but no one went out of their way to see if you wanted or needed anything in terms of making the most of your stay. It's expensive enough but much much cheaper than staying in a true wilderness lodge. But then you pays your money and.....

We live in Courtenay and had two couples visiting so thought it would be a great idea to take the water taxi over to April Point on Quadra Island for lunch. Horrible service, and very questionable food. Took almost 1 1/2 hours to get our food and when we told our server the fries were cold, she said "Well that's weird because they were sitting under the heat lamp for a long time". Charged us for not one but two extra bowls of soup and she couldn't figure out how to split up the bills. We were embarrassed for putting our friends through that and definitely won't be back.....

We were staying at April Point and decided to have a family dinner, on a Thursday evening without having made a reservation. We chose a table outside with spectacular waterside views and a sunset over Discovery Passage. The service we received from Sophie was super friendly and professional. The braised short rib was delicious. So too the triple chocolate mousse. We also enjoyed the Queen Charlotte halibut, crispy herb chicken and a
vegetarian dish. Watch out for the harbour seals swimming by...
