“feeling the king and queen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

The Ambers
Coming up the long drive way, you experience a very warm welcome at the Ambers B&B. Walking through the house you feel like the king and the queen. After settling we were invited to have a drink with Gerard and Diana on the terrace at the back of the house. Sitting in the sun, enjoying the view and chatting about lots of things. We got advice about where to have dinner and in the morning we had a delicious breakfast in a beuatiful room with calm background music. When leaving, both Gerard and Diana were waving us out in their doorway:lovely. Couldn’t be better.

Room Tip: Choose a room at he back to hear the birds singing in the morning.

My wife and I spent a night at the ambers and felt home far away from home. Diana and Gerard are such lovely hosts, fulfilled all our wishes and gave us many great tipps for our journey in New Zealand. In addition the ambers is a little castle with many little nice details and a wonderful garden, just perfect to relax and enjoy. We highly recommend this place.

We recently took over the entire house for a week for a family wedding. Hospitality like this is difficult to find these days and Gerard and Diane were amazing hosts with nothing being too much trouble. The house and garden are absolutely gorgeous, making it difficult to choose which room we wanted to stay in, and you get the feeling that these rooms have all been decorated with warmth and passion. The house is located in an excellent position to explore the beaches, shops and interesting bays all within easy driving distance.
Lastly the breakfasts - we had a different one every day - are outstanding, and the complimentary wine with the hosts in the evening is a treat.
Put this one on your list to visit, you wont be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you want to do self catering go for the Gite, with its own fridge, microwave etc. The bed in the...

Somehow I managed not to acknowledge your wonderful and positive comments Sal. That's a great pity because we thoroughly enjoyed your & your family stay with us. In fact, your stay was one of the highlights of the last 12 months and we often talk about you all, the wonderful bridal pair and the many good talks. We hope that all's well with you and family and that we'll see you again soon!

We recently travelled around New Zealand for 2 weeks and this was the best accommodation for the entire trip. Our family felt spoilt! Diane was the perfect hostess, very helpful and a pleasure to talk to! The house and bedrooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The house is in a very quiet location, with a lovely garden. We thoroughly enjoyed the hearty breakfast of fresh fruit salad, warm compote, yoghourt, cereals, eggs and toast! We highly recommend The Ambers and would love to stay there again.

The photo's on the web site just don't seem to do full justice to The Ambers. First of all there is the lovely long straight drive with the house set centre stage in front of you. The room was luxuriously and elegantly dressed, with a divine en-suite. The house is a cornucopia of interesting and well placed knick knacks, souvenirs and family photo's.
the real reason the phot's do not capture the full spleandour of The Ambers is because it can't show the warmth you get from the hosts, Diane, Gerard & Wolf.
Fabulous breakfast was served in the dining room and can include Gluten/Wheat free options, if you let them know in advance.
We took up Gerard's tip to visit Devenport on our way back to the airport and had a lovely day in an old world town.

Room Tip: All rooms are good - it makes it difficult to choose
