When we arrived at the dock at 6:30 am Pat was there and ready to go. By 7:00 we had our first salmon on the line. 9 salmon and 3 hours later we had had an incredible morning that neither my 13 year old son nor I will soon forget. Pat was great, working tirelessly to ensure that we had a good morning of fishing. After all, that is what we came for and that is exactly what we got. Thank you Pat!

Booked charter Aug 1, 2017 5 hour AM trip. Pat was at end of dock when we arrived and literally off within 5 minutes. About 20 mins to the fishing grounds. Clean well equipped boat. Pat clearly knows how and where to fish and was constantly checking baits, adjusting depth of the down riggers, and ensuring everything was near perfect to catch fish. Lost a couple of good sized fish and Pat clearly was disappointed and seemed to enjoy fishing as much as myself and the 3 kids did. Landed 3 Chinooks and 2 pink salmon which Pat cleaned back at the dock. Icing on the cake was pulling up Pat's crab trap on the way back and getting some beautiful Dungeness crabs for dinner. Great day, great boat, great captain. Thanks Pat.

Discovered Pat online and hastily booked family fishing trip for end of a Vancouver Island vacation.

We stayed in Langford and found the drive out to pleasant in the morning. We parked at Jock’s dock and walked down to meet Pat and the boat. Ninety seconds later we were underway – no labored introductions or formalities, or silly safety instructions. Bam, on the water!

As it happened, we found ourselves in the middle of a tournament, and there were about 25 boats, all with gear in the water. That said, we pulled 7 fish out in 5 hours, and 4 were keepers (3 Chinook and 1 Pink). The largest Chinook was 28 pounds. We didn’t see anyone else land anything. “You would probably win the tournament with that fish,” Pat said, before adding, “If you were in it….”

Pat’s been fishing the BC coast for nearly 50 years -- sport and commercial, rivers, streams and the sea – from Sooke to Masset. But despite that there’s was two things about him that impressed: 1) he wasn’t trying to impress with his knowledge and he was soft-spoken, and 2) when the bite’s on he leaps up with excitement like a boy fishing for the first time.

Important thing to know: you need to arrange your own licenses beforehand, and dress excessively warm, even if you think it’s silly. The water is cold and any wind will make you cold if you don’t.

Finally, Pat will clean your fish. But if you want to take them home -- and we did -- he can recommends a place that will vacuum seal, smoke, freeze etc. the fish. We had so much fish we thought this prudent, and it was a great move.

Asked for a fishing trip, and Captain Pat was honest about what was the best fishing for that area. Captain Pat was so humble we didn't know how good we did until we talked to several other fisherman who all wanted to know where we caught our fish. He definitely knows his stuff and works hard to keep you in the fish. He's quite polite and you 'll have a fun day!

Wow, I took my son and two sons in law fishing while in Sooke on a family vacation. Great way to spend the better part of a day with amazing scenery, good fun, a great captain (Pat) and 8 big salmon. It was such a cool outing and we all highly recommend Pat and the experience. Cheers Pat!
