Wanted to avoid the tourist routes so asked a waitress in a bar where she would go hiking. Alyard Farm was her immediate reply. Took a bit of finding but got there in the end. Loads of trails across fields and into the woods. Couple of fabulous beaches, one with sand like talcum powder not far from the parking area. Could spend an hour or a day there. Coastal walk needed proper hiking boots as very uneven and lots of tree roots to trip over. Fab day.

To be sure, Alyard farm is no longer one. The structures are no longer there but the fruit trees are. From the parking lot, one walks through the former orchards and most go to the beach, one of the nicest in the area (sandy or at least fine gravel, no sea weed).

Of course, one can use it to start on the many trails.

I had read about this beach, but to be honest had put it to the back of my mind. We decided to drive to East Sooke and out of pure chance drove down the end of the road and came across this stunning place. The car park is about 5 mins from the beach, and the beach itself is stunning. Glorious views, sand, and a real hidden gem.

Alyard Farm is a fantastic place to hike year round. It offers the petroglyphs and fantastic trails. It also has a beautiful white sandy beach. A real diamond in the rough.

Follow the path through the fields of Aylard Farm, past the apple trees and up to the covered picnic area. From here you can take your choice of trails each winding their way along the beautiful coastline. The beach itself has a tropical feel with the soft white sand, reefs and tide pools. If you're up for some beach combing head up over the rock and you're on a whole different beach to explore...or choose the other direction and try to find the petroglyph!

This is good place to bring kids. Nice safe sandy beach. It's a short walk from the parking area and it's very popular in the summertime.

Tucked away in East Sooke, is this great beach. It is a little find! Beautiful views of the mainland, across the straits of Juan de Fuca. The beach sand is soft and the water is clear but cold. There are all kinds of shell fish, starfish etc. There is also jellyfish. There is a parking lot monitor with maps and water etc. Great for children too.

East Sooke Park offers a great introduction to what a west coast trail is all about. Quick access to an interesting petroglyph and awesome views of the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympics. To complete the entire trail along the coast (Coast Trail) leave a vehicle at either end and enjoy with some good breaks a 7 hour one way hike. Recommend a solid hiking shoe as sections are steep and some 3 point maneuvering is required . . . all safe and doable.

East Sooke Park is a wonderful place to visit to be near the ocean and do some hiking. We did both. There are many trails some are easy and others are more difficult. You can chose.

Lovley beach and trails, beautiful trees along the rugged coastline. Trail along the coastline or go inland and up a small mountain. See the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island along the coast trail. Great day hikes year round
