Fantastic location, cute eclectic hotel, fun perks like a wood burning fire, cookies and port wine in your room, however all were overshadowed by poor management and service.

I went on a business retreat there with a group, we had 15 rooms for two nights, meeting rooms, and catered dinners and many other meals- it was a big reservation for the hotel. The food was hit or miss, mostly good but with some big misses; coffee was always cold or empty, tea was never served and when it was asked for it would be brought but took forever and was never refilled, pasta was overcooked. They served the vegetarian in the group soup with beef chunks in it after she spoke with the kitchen and wait staff to specifically confirm that it had no animal products in it. There was no apology.

The other huge issue was the poor management on the part of the hotel regarding noise and use of the patio in the evening. Several members in the group got together each night to socialize, for example they went to a patio on the hotel property overlooking the beach, noise level would be considered moderate and everyone was in bed by midnight. We were advised on our departure from the hotel that every room in our group was going to be charged a $100 per night service fee for the noise level and the management was not available to discuss the issue. The group was not once approached by hotel staff that they were too loud and the restaurant served drinks to take onto the patio until 11 pm. There was a big disconnect between the hotel restaurant staff on site encouraging the behaviour and management slapping on a $200 fee to every room in even though most people were not there, and then not even being willing to have a conversation about it after notifying the organizer by email. The group was unaware they were being too loud on the evenings and not once had any hotel staff approached the group.

The grounds were beautiful and full of herbs. Restaurant was nice and had a cozy wood burning fire going in the evenings. The rooms and patios could use some cleaning up/updates, the eclectic feel was nice but don’t plan on going for anything other then a very quiet weekend with your partner.

Stayed 5 nights in a lovely sea view room on the top floor with a balcony. Excellent accommodation and we enjoyed the rustic feel of the hotel. All the staff were great, but the highlight was the Copper Room restaurant and the fab meals prepared by Thomas and his team. We didn't have one bad meal during the 5 days! Thanks to all - will definitely recommend the Sooke HH to all.

Room tip: Get a sea view top floor room!
