Listen up would be travelers! If your journey takes you through the mystical valleys of Sooke, then the Markham House has to be your number one choice. I know your practically drowning in options, but rest assured, this exquisite B and B will provide you not only with a relaxing stay in Sooke's beautiful natural environment, but will also satisfy your appetite with delicious locally prepared cuisine. Let the Markham House overwhelm you with its ponds, sculpted garden, romantic hot tub and best in class hospitality provided by Sandy and Lyle. Thank you both so much for the stay, no, the experience, that you provided. It was a soul nurturing time. Thank you again!

Everything at this B&B was perfect. The couple running the place truly go out of their way to make sure that everything is perfect for your stay. I especially enjoyed the exceptional breakfasts each morning that were complete with fresh fruit, home-ade granola, yogurt, tea, baked assortments along with a full plate of hot breakfast. They also made the best eggs benedict i've ever had! The hot tub in the back was another luxury that I managed to utilize each night of my stay and was a perfect ending to each day. The property of this house is astonishing with beautiful trees, a stream and amazing gardens.

Best B&B I've ever been to!

My husband and I had the great pleasure of spending a week at the Markham House recently. Having never stayed at a B&B before, we were not quite sure what to expect. What a wonderful experience it was! The grounds were so beautiful. We stayed in the Honeysuckle cottage and our accommodations were perfect. Having our own private hot tub was wonderful. We suspect that we would have been equally as comfortable in the main house, as we later toured the rooms there and they were all lovely as well. Sally and Lyall are the most gracious, and delightful hosts we could have wished for and the breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented each morning. We would highly recommend that anyone travelling to this area, spend some time at the Markham House. Jeff & Jan Mallmes

Where to start... It's hard to stay "local" and have a wonderful experience in November, but Lyall and Sally made it happen for us. After reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor, we jumped all in and reserved the Honeysuckle Cottage for our mini-vacation getaway anniversary trip.

We arrived late afternoon in mid-November and when we got there we discovered Markham House tucked away up a little gravel road. It was a bit noisy when we arrived because there was no power and they were running the generator to power the main house. Unfortunately the cottage wasn't hooked up so we roughed it for about an hour with the wood fireplace and all the wonderful candles about the place. When the lights came on, we were delighted with what we found. A lovely little bedroom with a comfy featherbed topped queen size bed and a bath with doors from both the bedroom and living area.

Breakfast was just delish! Lyall brought by our picnic basket filled with fresh made scones, granola, juice, fruit, yogurt, jam & butter and the morning's paper. Then he said he'd bring breakfast along in a bit... did we want mushroom & cheese omelets. Everything was just done to a tee and then some.

We went out for the day and when we returned, sitting on the table by the picture window was a beautiful bouquet that my husband had secretly arranged with Lyall to be delivered for me for our anniversary.

I'm sorry we weren't there in warmer weather but even with the rain, it was simply magical and I hope we can go back again soon. It's simply a marvelous place with wonderful hosts.

The Honeysuckle Cottage is a wonderful place for a romantic getaway. All the details are there: the external hot tub, the fire and the candles, the nice cosy living room and breakfast table in front of a huge window facing the forest, the cute bedroom full with small details that make it a “home” from the start… Breakfast was delivered to our door every morning on a cute picnic basket and there was enough good food there to feed us until the afternoon! It is not far from Sooke and 35 min away from Victoria. I would advise those who are looking for peace and quiet in a cosy environment to spend some time here. It is a bit more expensive that other B&B around, but the whole atmosphere makes it worthy if you plan on spending some time on the premises. If you are only there to go to sleep at night and leave early in the morning, you will miss the whole experience of living in a cottage in the middle of the forest, and that would really be a pity! We were there for 2 days to celebrate a birthday and we had diner on the Sooke Harbour House: great restaurant with fantastic views of the ocean. A really good experience that have to recommend to anyone staying in the area!
