Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club hugs the shore of Bathurst harbour. As a course it combines the joys of a park style lay out on the front nine and a links approach to the back nine as it follows the highly scenic ground along the extensive harbour. The course can be challenging, particularly in the wind and offers several rather unique holes to test the mettle of even low handicap players. The thirteenth hole is a side-hill par four with an uphill approach shot on to the narrow length of a two-tier green. This is no easy par-4. Following this is a par five dogleg right through a steep gully with the beach beckoning shots straying to the right. The extensive uphill green provides a range of skill testing putts.
After the game one can retire to an extensive, beautifully furnished clubhouse and browse through a fully stocked pro shop or correct tour game on the practice areas along with a refreshment and/or a snack in the beautifully appointed bar.
In addition to all this the club offers a full catering service for large or small functions. It is a favourite location for weddings, providing several highly photogenic backgrounds for souvenir photographs.
Memberships are available through the pro shop as is expert instruction from Assistant Professional Chad Townsend or Manager of Golf Adam Chamberlain. For catering information, Donna Lavigne is always willing to help with suggestions and information.
Now, if the snow would only disappear I could get up there and start using the facility myself!

Scenic, great staff and full service clubhouse. Great value and a must play if you're in Bathurst. This course won't dissapoint with a very challenging back nine overlooking Bathust Harbour. For a true test play from the back tees and hope the wind isn't up. Cheers!!!

I went to Gowan Brae with some business partners to play 9 holes for the afternoon , we rented two Golf carts and had a couple beer while we were playing , about an hour later on the 5th hole my friend jarod ran the golf cart into a sandtrap and got it stuck , it wasnt long before help arrived and the damage to the cart wasnt even a problem , they didnt even mind that the axle got bent. Gowan Brae was a great time and everybody loved playing there .

Attended a large family wedding reception there. The setup was perfect with a separate reception area, bar, dining area, dance floor, and deck. Great service and delicious food. Overall, a wonderful experience.
