We stayed in the ground floor Soothpunds apartment which has a fabulous view towards Levenwick and across the bay - great for seeing summer sunrises! The natural re-purposed wood throughout is both unique and stylish - a testament to Niki and Piet’s craftsmanship and eye for detail. Couldn’t ask for more friendly and welcoming hosts - Nikki even arranged for a cake to be made for my partner's birthday while we were there. It’s in a great position - easy access to the rest of the mainland but in a quiet position with plenty of open space and wildlife around. We visited in early June and the wildlife in Shetland was abundant - just fabulous to listen to the curlews from the apartment and starlings nesting in the bank in the garden. The hot tub is great - indoors and with a fabulous view out over the coast and sea. A perfect stay and would highly recommend it.
A warm welcome from our hosts on arrival and helpful local information. The accommodation was well equipped and comfortably furnished - first holiday in a long time that we haven’t gone home with backache from poor beds. Wonderful views over the countryside and sea.
We enjoyed watching the resident goats and hens in the field, some neighbouring ducks squeezed their way through the fences and there were a few rabbits running around. There are a lot of sheep on Shetland and visiting in May there were lots of lambs as well!
The main north-south road was only a few minutes away but there was no road noise so this was a convenient location for visiting local sites – being used to the crowded roads in south of England it was very pleasant driving on Shetland’s roads which are very quiet.
Everyone we met throughout our holiday was friendly and helpful.
We visited Sumburgh Head and got close-ups of some puffins – they don’t seem to mind the visitors at all! Also worth visiting are Jarlshof, St Ninian’s Isle and Scalloway. The highlight for us was our afternoon on Mousa Island and visiting the broch – being able to climb up inside a building that is over 2,000 years old and see where the people lived was magical. When we visited Old Scatness, which has prehistoric remains of a similar period to Jarlshof, it was slightly surreal being next to the airport runway with planes taking off whilst standing in an ancient building!
This accommodation is in a lovely location with wonderful hosts on site. It is very well fitted out with all the home comforts. I would definitely recommend it and would visit it again .
A fine place to visit the Shetlands. Beautiful apartment, beautiful views and nice owners who would like to tell you more about the island. Recommended.
It's not that far from Sumburgh airport but we didn't hear a plane the whole time we were there.
The apartment was very nicely finished with an individual rather than mass-produced feel to it and the sound insulation between the apartments is really effective.
The kitchen is small but has most of the things you need, providing you keep your meals simple, which we did, and the delivery from Tescos in Lerwick made things very easy.
If you go, a boat trip to Mousa and a drive over to St Ninians are definitely to be recommended but there are plenty of other places to go and things to see in the area.
