“The perfect retreat”

The Applewood Cottage is the ultimate of a very romantic and secluded home away from home. Imagine an old barn in an apple orchard, converted in a cozy retreat – close to everything but far enough to feel the calm and relax of the rural environment. Once you find where to turn off Laketrail Road – not even five minutes from downtown Courtenay – you see the cottage at the back of the orchard, ivy growing up the walls and cascading down from the roof. You park your car and cross the lawn to the porch and the entrance and you are perplex at what you find inside the house. The interior is so nice, clean and well-kept and the small kitchen really contains everything you need and even more. Breakfast items for your first morning are ready and as we arrived in autumn we got freshly pressed apple juice and dried apples from the orchard. The bathroom has a washer and a laundry line (and tumbler in winter I think) and a bath-tube and has a window with a romantic view in the green surroundings. There is even an outdoor shower next to the back porch. The two porches are really convenient, the back porch with a table and chairs and a BBQ, the covered front porch with easy chairs and a coffee table, the place for your after-dinner drink. The bedroom on the upper floor has a king-size bed; a second bed can be used in the anteroom. It was so cozy to get home to this lovely place after a day outdoor, salmon fishing and hiking along the rivers and it was so good to hear the rain drum on the roof above you during the night and know you are safe and warm. There is a very good and efficient heating, the whole house is warm in no time, so comfortable if you return after a cool and rainy day, and in addition a wood stove with wood provided. This is a place where you regret when your stay is over and you have to leave. No wonder the cottage is often booked for longer periods during off-season; we envy those who can stay there for weeks in a row. Suzanne, the owner is a generous and friendly person, very welcoming and it was a pleasure to do business with here. We came as strangers and left as friends.
