My husband & I were on a road trip from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island to Summerland in wine country. By the time we took the ferry & got to Hope we were ready for a stop & some lunch. We ha decided on Japanese bento boxes before we left home. The first Japanese restaurant that we saw, we went into. It looked like a day care for little kids. They were everywhere, yelling & screaming & throwing toys! Not very restful to say the least. We left the restaurant.

We continued onto the Kimchi restaurant. We were seated in a big comfortable booth. Our orders were quickly taken for chicken teriyaki bento boxes. But, when our meals arrived at the table, my meal was incorrect. The waitress graciously removed it & soon I had the correct meal. The food was well prepared, flavorful, & fresh. We left the Kimchi with full tummies & ready to continue on with our travels.

Kimchi was the restaurant chosen for dinner during a recent overnight stay in Hope. Located a few, short blocks from our lodging, daughter and I walked up to the restaurant earlier in the day, to peak inside, confirm business hours, etc. — we liked what we saw, and decided it should be given a try.

We (threesome - senior couple & daughter) arrived at the restaurant shortly after 5 pm - several tables were occupied - we chose one by front window (it was bright & cheery, and away from the direct and rather strong A/C vents overhead the inside tables). Once settled in, menus, and mugs of tea were brought to our table.

What was ordered and shared: (descriptions as per listings in menu)

- Appetizers: Agedashi Tofu (deep fried tofu, w/green onion, seaweed, teriyaki sauce) — Tempura (4 pieces of veggie, and 2 pieces of prawn).
- Kimchi’s Korean Dish Special: Bulgalbi (marinated cut short rib, served w/miso soup, rice, and salad)
- Noodles: Chicken Yakisoba (pan fried noodles with chicken & veggies)
- Rolls: California roll

To say the least - a big yum! decent presentations, and very tasty/flavourful preparations. Ok .. I was a touch surprised!! but heh, I truly-enjoyed all the dishes ordered. And I know it wasn’t just me, as ‘we’ cleaned all the plates!! The dishes offered some nice textures, tasty sauces, and some very distinctive flavours. Nothing was overcooked - and that included the noodles, short ribs, and veggies.

Kimchi — we much-enjoyed our visit!!

This has become my go to restaurant in Hope. Service is always good, and the food is excellent. It tastes like Vancouver-quality sushi, and it is very affordable.

A bit out of the way, but this is a good, affordable, place to eat in Hope BC. The menu has a good selection of sushi, donburi and bento boxes, nicely prepared and presented. We each had a bento box, which was more than enough food ... no room for desert. The bill for 3 people came to under $60. They also have a selection of Korean dishes. The restaurant usually attracts a steady group of local customers, so get there early on the weekends as it can get crowded after 6 pm
