The spa and accommodation were great. The restaurant was closed and a buffet was served in place of this. The food was poor and way below the standard you would expect from a resort of this level. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Excellent time at the Tigh Na Mara Spa.

Loved the location! And room. The Grotto Spa was an unreal experience, I would recommend anyone take the day to truly experience and absorb the wonderful ambience and ammenities offered.

It was clean, efficient, welcoming and beautiful. We can’t wait to come back year after year!

Recently went to Tigh Na Mara with a group of friends. Booked the cottages and spa package.
The Cottages were very clean, spacious, with comfortable beds (2 Queens in bedroom and a double murphy bed in the livingroom), full kitchen with all supplies needed, gas fireplace in the livingroom and bedroom. Bathroom with shower (no tub) and shampoo, conditioner, etc. included. Ice available a short distance away in self-service laundromat unit. Absolutely no complaints about the accommodation.
Currently the main restaurant is closed due to renovations. They have set up a temporary restaurant area in the basement and it felt like a basement. Buffet dinner was the worst buffet we have ever experienced. They should have just shut down the kitchen during the renovations, rather than serve what they do. Ceasar salad was soggy, mashed potatoes were so thick and gluey that it was a struggle to get them from the serving spoon to your plate, curried vegetables did not even resemble vegetables, ham was dry. To say it in a word the food resembled and tasted like "institution" food. Not really acceptable for a resort such as Tigh Na Mara. When we complained about the food all we got was "we've had a few comments about the buffet", "sorry you didn't enjoy it", "you can complete a comment card".... Needless to say we went off site for breakfast.
The spa is very tranquil and staff were extremely friendly. We all had a variety of spa services with only one concern raised, i.e. one friend was told that her treatment was an hour earlier and then she had to wait an hour in the lounge as they had made a mistake in giving her the wrong time. HOWEVER, it was a bit shocking that, because we had booked as a group, we were each charged a 20% tip!! When a massage costs $130 for an hour (and you actually don't get a full 60 minutes of massage) and then you are charged an additional $26.00 for a tip, the final price seems rather high. Not even sure that this is legal. A tip should be given voluntarily if you feel that you were given good service. We all agreed that we tip, when we have gone for spa treatments, but not $26.00 (or more). Not even sure how a group makes it reasonable to charge the mandatory 20% tip. Each person is booking an individual spa service, not like in a restaurant where a waiter/waitress has to ensure that everyone at the table gets their meals and drinks together. I can see having a mandatory group tip applied in a restaurant, but definitely not in a spa. My only hope is that the spa workers actually do get ALL of the tip that is taken and that it is not going to the Resort. If you are going as a group you might be better off just booking in groups of 2, to avoid this extra charge, and then just pay a tip as you see fit.
The spa mineral pool and hot tub is nice, but not very big. It was quite cosy in the hot tub at times.
Great location for hikes, walks on the beach, and just having a peaceful weekend among forested trees and the ocean. Until the restaurant renovations are complete plan to eat off site or bring your own food. Just as an added note, I have eaten in the restaurant prior to the renovation and had no complaints at all, so not sure why they could not produce an edible buffet.

Reservation, check in/out - all very efficient. The Grotto SPA would benefit from sauna or steam room, but the overall experience in the SPA was very unique and relaxing. We felt the effect of the mineral pool for a few days after the treatment. The cottage we stayed in had a very cozy atmosphere, with a patio facing woods. Overall, a great place to get away from it all!

Stayed one night for our anniversary in the Oceanview Deluxe Suite - Ballenas building. The bed was super comfortable and the ocean view was fantastic. This building was newly renovated but the decor is an odd mix of modern mixed with log cabin that doesn't quite work together but it was a huge suite with a sparkling new kitchen and bath. Would be good for a longer stay. Unfortunately there were a bunch of Xmas parties being held in some of the nearby rental cabins on the property that went really late into the early morning. Was surprised the resort did not quiet them down.

Room Tip: I would choose the newer renovated rooms over the panabode cabins, I think those are a little dated
