Description: Angelo and Doxa Makrydakis immigrated to Canada from the island of Krete. In 1996, they decided that Kitchener needed a Greek dining experience where customers would feel welcome and a part of the family in a casual, warm atmosphere. Soon after, the Three Kretans was born. Named after their 3 sons - Gus, Zack and Niko - they succeeded in bringing the tastes of Greece to KW. With fresh ingredients and traditional Greek dishes and desserts prepared daily, Three Kretans has established itself as being Kitchener-Waterloo's premiere authentic Greek restaurant for over 22 years. OPA!

This place is old school and somewhat hard to find (basement of the YMCA) but well worth trying. It has a family-owned feel to it and the menu is classic Greek. Had the Gyro and chicken brochette platters. Very ample portions and delicious homemade Tzatziki. While not the best Greek restaurant I’ve ever eaten at, it is above average and you should try it as it is across the street from the Center In The Square theatre and they even give you free parking if you eat there on show nights! Opa!!!

There is parking right at the restaurant., ask when you make a reservation. The staff are welcoming and very friendly. The decor is Greek. The wine selection is limited but reasonable in price. We had the salmon that was nicely done and tasty, nothing exotic but pleasant. Location is within walking distance to the Centre in the Square if you are going to a show after dinner.

We were quite surprised that we could not order off the "full menu" because it was a "concert" night and the menu was limited. We ordered the dolmads which were very good as was the village salad (no lettuce in a village salad) however we had never seen red peppers in it. It's usually green peppers. The salad was still good. The problem occurred when the calamari came. It was as hard as a rock and not edible. You couldn't even bite into it. The waitress took it back to the kitchen and the chef told her that this is the way he cooks it and to our surprise the waitress returned the same plate back to me. She did take it off the bill but can you imagine bringing the plate back to us. Overall, the dinner was okay - we had eaten there before and the food was much better. I didn't think a Greek restaurant could mess up calamari - I guess it does happen.
We won't be rushing back.

Hi Belle,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent experience. Yes - we do have a limited theatre menu prior to performances at the Centre in the Square. This is to make it easier on the kitchen so that everyone can make the show on time as everyone comes in all at once and leaves at the same time. However, if there was something on the regular menu that you would like, your server could have mentioned it to the kitchen and usually we can make the accommodation. I'm sorry about the calamari. We have been having issues with it recently and have temporarily taken it off the menu. I have a feeling that your waitress was new and training, as our servers know never to return a dish to a customer if it was sent back. I am glad it was removed from your bill :) I hope you give us another chance in the future.
