Terrible stay

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Jan 2020
My family and myself stayed at this hotel before our flight to Mexico. We had hoped to relax for the night before catching our flight, unfortunately our stay was anything but that. In fact it was hectic and stressful, not at all how we wanted to start our holiday... We rented 2 rooms, one for myself and my husband, along with one of our children, and the other room was for our other son and his fiance. We hadn't seen our kids in months so wanted to have our rooms close together. We were told that wouldn't be a problem, and were given 2 rooms side by side. The room that was to have or son and fiance in was ice cold, not chilly, but freezing. The air conditioner was blowing full blast (this was at the end of December). My husband tried for about 30 minutes to get the air to turn off and get the heat to kick in. Nothing was working, so I called down to the front desk to to see if we could get help fixing it. I was told that there was no one available to get it working, so I then asked for a different room. I was then told that there wasn't one available. That was frustrating, but thought we'd turn up the heat, leave it for a few minutes to see if it would turn on. After 15 minutes it was still the same, way to cold for anyone to sleep in. It was very stressful, because we had no idea where the 2 of our kids would be sleeping for the night...I finally went downstairs to the front desk and told the employee working that we needed somewhere for them to sleep. She said she'd call the manager to ask what she should do. After talking to the manager, she found another room for them to move to. We went out for a bite to eat and when we got back we went to the room that was for my husband and myself, it was now getting late and we were very tired at this point. I went to sit down on the one of the beds and the whole thing nearly fell down. It was so unstable that I knew that it wouldn't hold my son through the night. It was not usable at all. So I again called down to the front desk to to tell the employee that we needed either the bed to be fixed, or we would need a new room because we had 3 adults staying in that room and only one usable bed. She informed me that there was still no one available to help us, and that there was no rooms available. Again, another very stressful situation. We had no idea where we were going to put our son to sleep for the night. The employee from the desk called us back a little while later to say that she had again called the manager and was told that she could give us a roll away bed, for free ( not even sure why that would even be a question???) but I told her that there was no way any kind of bed whatsoever would fit in that room. I told her that we were in a room with 2 queen beds, she informed me that they were not queen beds, but doubles, we paid for queen size beds but apparently were given doubles. Regardless of whether they were queens or doubles, there was still no room for a roll away bed. She said there was nothing else she could do. I asked her where our third person  was going to sleep, she said she had no idea. My husband and I did the only thing we could think of, we took the bed apart and spent at least another 30 minutes fixing the bed. By now it was really late, we were all exhausted and we had an early flight to catch. What a terrible way to start our holiday, we were stressed and exhausted. I asked that night to speak to a manager as well as the next morning and was told there wasn't one available. I also tried to email the hotel and did not hear back from them. We were scheduled to stay at this hotel on our way back from Mexico, but canceled. I would not recommend this hotel. The stay was disappointing, but the lack of response and help was even more disappointing.

The hotel is close to the airport and there is an on-demand shuttle, which took 15 minutes to arrive for me. There was no assistance with my bags at check in and the luggage carts are old and unweildly. The rooms are average but the water is hot and strong and the bed is comfortable. The breakfast was utterly boring but saved with an excellent old school waffle iron. I booked my transfer the night before but they wouldn't confirm it until the morning which was frustrating, as was bringing my bags down again in the half broken trolly. It was perfectly fine but not wonderful.

We always stay in Quality Hotel Airport South whenever we visit Richmond BC because it is a very short walk to Richmond Center, includes breakfast, and is a clean place to stay. Rooms are very spacious too. I think cumulatively we must have stayed in Quality Hotel more than 6x over the years and have recommended it to friends and family every time they visit Richmond BC.

This time around we had planned to stay overnight, then transfer to an AirBnB for 4 nights, then go to Seattle for 3 nights, and return to Quality Hotel Airport South for a few more nights before flying back home.

Unfortunately, the AirBnb host was a no show, so imagine the mad scramble to find a place to stay for 10 persons on Christmas Eve. Of course, the first place we checked was Quality Hotel and luckily, Garima at reception came through. She found us rooms and checked us in as if we had never left. She made a very stressful situation less stressful.

Overall, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely stay here again when we return in the future.

We didn’t stay long (7hours) but this was a great stopover between flights. Close to YVR, $20 CDN flat rate cab was a good choice for us, morning shuttle on time. As we had an early flight the night manager put out some food for breakfast which was a nice gesture. Decor a bit dark but the room was clean and quiet. I would stay again.

Close enough to the airport, but also to Richmond restaurants. Free shuttle provided, although it was easier to take the $20 taxi from airport to hotel.
No surprises in the room, comfortable bed, practical bathroom.
For an airport hotel, it’s late to start breakfast at 6:30. Not being allowed to take food to your room is unusual. Never seen that policy in any other Quality Hotel

Shuttle to the airport friendly service.Stayed here on the NOV. 11th room cozy , typical continental breakfast. Strange I found a used face towel hanging over the the shower curtain rod. Whoever inspect the room for cleanliness I guess forgot to 👀 up.
