“Getaway between Christmas and New Years”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2011

We stayed here for three nights between Christmas and New Years 2011 and the experience was extremely awful. From very negetaive front desk staff, dirty towels upon check-in, no cleaning services to no Wi Fi services I would definitely not stay here again. Everytime the front desk staff was asked by us and others it was like they were being bothered. Rating - 2 out of 10. We've stayed at numerous other resorts in nearby Canmore and they're at a minumum a 8 out of 10.

P.S. Front desk staff: Rebooting your Wi Fi system is extremely easy and can be done in less than a couple of minutes. Also, if you don't like dealing with the public, do yourselves a favour and change jobs so that you're happy.

We had a two bedroom suite with den for 6 people--3 adults and 3 teenagers while we attended a ski race at Nakiska. This is a very large unit with space for everyone, our racers had a place to tune their skis, a place to work out and we had space to relax. The kitchen is large, although it could use a bit more cooking equipment, especially since a unit this size means you are cooking for several people. All equipment was in working order and the staff is extremely friendly and courteous. The beds were very comfortable but the hide-a-bed was a typical one, but OK for four nights. The prices are good and even though Canmore is close, Copperstone Resort allows us to be at the ski hill 10-15 minutes ahead of others.

We had a one bedroom unit with was what you might expect from a condo style stay. The kitchen was nice but only 4 place settings so if you have more than a couple people you'll have to wash dishes multiple times a day possibly (dishwasher included though). I believe there are more settings for the larger rooms.

The main bedroom was nice with it's own flat screen tv, ample closet space, and the bed was comfortable. The pullout couch bed was terrible though with a super thin mattress which you could feel every single spring in your back (no matress padding). So if you have more than two people I recommend upgrading to the room with a den at least and stay away from anything other than sitting on the couch.

The main room fireplace is electric but can put out okay heat on high setting. In suite washer and dryer are nice for drying clothes or washing any spills out. Hot tub is large and outdoor which I prefer to indoor; however the firepit and built-in BBQ's by the hot tub were down with the exception of one propane one. Tools (such as tongs) have to be aquired from front desk and are in limited supply. There are no BBQ's in the room balcony's that we saw (with the exception of condo's who's owners lived there).

Parking seemed adequate for a weekend visit, but if you're looking for something to do other than hiking or local skiing, Canmore and any kind of service aside fromt he Husky is another 10km away.

Stayed here thru Hotwire for 2 days over long weekend with husband as a getaway from Calgary (45 min drive). Location and state of the rooms are luxurious, spacious and quiet. Underground parking and kitchenettes was convenient. Was upgraded to 2 bedroom, even though we didn't need it. However, not much to do in Dead Man flats and the bbq and hot tub were too far away from our rooms to use conveniently, especially in cold weather. This would be ideal for larger families with pets (pet friendly building) and for those wanting to hike or ski in nearby area. But as a couple going to Canmore to eat and shop, next time we would rather get something in town instead with an indoor pool and amenities.

Room Tip: Main room floors have outdoor access, great for taking pets outside.

I traveled with 2 friends and this hotel was a great pick for us. The hotel has more of a condo feel than a hotel feel. If I ever go back to the Banff area, I would stay here again.

Keep in mind that it is in the hamlet of Dead Man Flats, not Canmore. Canmore is a 10 minute drive away. Also, the hotel is adjacent to a campground and some people might find that creepy.

Pros: It had two bunk beds in one room and one full sized bed with a tv in that room. Both rooms had ample closet space.

The living area, bathroom, and kitchen were spacious.

It was very clean and the staff was very attentive.

The hotel also has a hot tub, pool, heated underground parking, and grills.

Free wi-fi connection and electric fireplace.

Great value. We paid $850 (Canadian dollars) for five nights. There were no other hotels in the Banff area with the same amenities for that price.

It is easy to get to - right off of Trans Canada 1, 1 1/2 hours from Calgary, 25 minutes from the town of Banff, 45 minutes from Lake Louise area, and 1 1/2 hours from Yoho National Park in British Columbia.

Cons: Some rooms are actually condos that people own, so parking is always an issue, especially on weekends.

There was no breakfast area or restaurant in the hotel because the rooms have a full kitchen. This was not an issue for us but some people might want that. The hamlet does have a small diner and two gas stations with generic stores attached to them that are within walking distance of the hotel. Also, Canmore has several generic stores and a Safeway (that is always busy).
